Avalon - U5 Mono Instrument DI Preamp - Anybody Have this? Man it's expensive, is it sweet or what? It doesn't have phantom power does it? I guess what I'm getting at is what mic-preamp is the best deal under $600? Thanks again everybody!

I'd say Grace Design 101 and RNP are leading the pack, and U5, by all reports, is a bitchin' DI box. Ask Littledog about it. I use Avalon AD2022 for a DI, and it's lovely.-Richie

It is really a DI box not a preamp. No phantom power. Yes it is very nice.

The U5 is a cool DI ..Grace 101 is a nice pre at 550.00
