anyone use hard digital recorders?

I am currently using a Boss BR900CD and I do like the results so far. I am new to recording. My question is I would like to expand track capability. The Boss only has 8 tracks and if u record in stereo that limits you to 4 tracks. Can I import a WAV file to a computer based program, manipulate it, then send it back to the hard recorder for mixdown and mastering? Anyone else out there using Boss 900 tips?

Record in stereo???...you are wasting tracks...a stereo image is something you get in mixdown...if there is 2 outputs on something just use the mono out.

I use a tascam 2488neo and it makes a great platform to do your recording with...computers crash alot...I think in situations where you are out doing live recordings and you have to use 8-12 inputs you cant beat them with anything out there.

I use the AKAI DPS12i and I'm loving it. It has no stereo inputs, I'm glad to say. I think they're a waste of time and a con. For a short while I had the Zoom MRS1266 and though advertised as a 12 track, it wasn't really because there were 2 stereo inputs. It was actually a 10 track.
