How do you feel about this mic? Give me your thoughts and feelings, where it works best for you, where it doesnt, what you feel its basic "tone" is like.

Very hot output and low self-noise make this mic ideal for quiet sources like acoustic bass and nylon string guitar. The small footprint let's you get into tight spaces with it. But using it on louder sources may require external padding.
It's a very nice sounding mic without the overly-hyped upper mid-range that some people seem to like (or at least some mic manufacturers). There is a presence peak in the upper mid-range, just not as extreme as a lot of others. I would describe the high end as open-sounding, and the mid-range as neutral (in a good sense of the word).
Some people around hear have stated they dislike it on vocals, but I think it works pretty well on a variety of voice types, although I have a couple of other mics I usually try first.

I own a matched pair... They're my work-horses, as they're very versatile mics. I use them all over the place! The cool thing is that you can tell when they work and when they don't. I'd say 70% of the time they do when it's the first mic I decide to try. You can hear them as drum overheads and on all the vocals here:

I've had one for a while now and it's proven to be a very useful mic. I found that it sounds very good for a woman's voice but for a man's voice it's not my first choice. It's also very nice for acoustic guitars.

i owned a pair of tlm103s for a couple of years, but sold them after using the Rode NTKs for the first time. the 103s were pretty nice through a vintech/neve 1272, but were a tad harsh through grace 101s. they were very effective on piano and acoustic guitar, but i didnt care for them on vocals or on woodwinds or horns.
