I'm looking to buy either the Behringer Blue Devil or the Vintager
combo amps. I'm looking for something under $300 to record with. I'd appreciate feedback either good or bad on these two amps. Also, is there another combo amp I should be considering?

What guitar are you using and what type of sound are you looking for?

Here's some unbiased reviews from those who own the Blue Devil...

And here's the reviews of the Vintager...

Both seem to have decent sound quality, according to the reviews.
But where the hell can you test one out for yourself!?!???

NOWHERE!!!!!

Not even the official Behringer website lists it's dealers where you can PHYSICALLY check out these amplifiers!

Check it out if you think I'm lying...
www.behringer.com

I even recommended that these amps be given a serious look to someone who was looking for a "cheap" tube amp...

But as I said, you can't find one at ANY music store to test for yourself. You have to take a chance and buy it on the internet and hope for the best. I almost did that, but opted for the Marshall AVT50 instead.

Why?
Because I played it and compared it with other amps in the same price range. Secondly, Marshall has a reputation for quality and now has a 3 year warranty.

The bottom line is, you can gamble on the Behringer stuff, or go for the "sure thing" for a few dollars more.
If my Marshall breaks, I can go back to the music store and deal with someone face-to-face, rather than through e-mails, phone calls, and FedEx.

I'm not saying the Behringer stuff isn't worth a look, because they are.
I'm just trying to give you the pro's and cons, that's all. ;)

Tex - My guitar is an Epihone LP and would like the option of several different sounds particularly a sustaining lead sound typical of the group Boston. (I know, who wouldn't)

Buck - You're right about the inability to audition the Behringer amps because no one has them. That's why I was hoping someone had auditioned them or has one that could provide some feedback before I took the plunge. Marshall is the sure thing but I don't know how the LP would sound through the AVT50 because the stores around me do not have the AVT50 in stock. I am tempted to buy the Behringer Blue Devil based on the reviews but then again ...... What a dllemna!

Thanks to both of you for the responses.

Tech 21 Trademark 10 $250

Fender Blues Jr. $370 A little over your budget but a good tube amp for home recording.

Marshall AVT20 $300 It only has one tube (preamp) but it has good tone and sounds a lot like an all-tube Marshall.

Those three amps have spring reverbs.

Trademark 10 and Marshall AVT20 have great distorted sounds, and the Blues Jr. has great warm clean sounds that only come from a tube amp. If you can find any of those in a store, give them a try. Good luck.
