I'm looking for some advice. I play mostly alt-country and some blues. I don't own a lap steel or resonator, but I've been playing alot of slide. I'm trying to emulate country steel guitar sounds on my acoustic, with limited success. I'm wondering if I'm going to need a dobro or lap steel if I keep at this type of playing. I haven't seen too many people playing country acoustic slide. If anyone does, I'd love to hear from you. Also, can anyone recommend a good video? Thanks.

Ive been thinking about getting a dobro myself. I have had alot of fun tuning my git to an open E and using a slide. I really prefer the resonator sound to lap steel. Good luck

I used to get some great blues sounds out of tuning a regular acoustic to an open G. But there is nothing you can do to replicate the sound of a dobro or steel guitar.. I went and bought a cheap resonator and a cheap lap steel and love them both. They fill in a lot of sound I was missing. Note.. the lap steel is fairly limiting and can't perform like a pedal steel but for little fills it is fine.

I wouldn't mind giving acoustic slide a try. I wanna do electric slide, as well, and just like hixmix, I've been eyeballing the lap steel by Gretsch, at the Musician's Friend web site, for quite a while now.

Geez....buy a guitar, or a resonator, that SOUNDS GOOD! Is that so hard? I spent 2 or 3 years findng THE ONE. Go for it.

I agree with Lp.......shop around and buy a guitar......I have an old regal that I love and a lap steel that i built myself out of a 30 year old piece of maple(sounds great)
