Another CPU redline Question

When I record a track and then play it back then CPU % is through the roof. I mean like thousands of %. It flashes and looks terrible but the play back sounds fine and it always slowly drops down to where I would expect it to be ( around 1% for first track). Is this normal when going from record to playback?

P3 667 mhz
128 mb ram
7 gig 7200 HD (1 gig empty)

NO, this is not normal. But I have no idea why your's is doing this. Hopefully someone here will be able to help.
