An Amping Question...

Hi, and sorry to bother y'all, but I really don't know where else to ask this.

I have an Ensoniq ASR-X which I was hoping to use as an effects unit until I can get something better. Is it okay to plug this directly into my amp, or would the signal be too strong?

It's not really an effects unit; it's a sampler and sequencer. Very complicated, and you have to know how to use SCSI and Flash. Sell this to a synthesizer geek, and buy a guitar unit from anyone like Line 6 or Zoom. 1/4" cord in, 1/4" cord out. Beyond that, I'm lost.

I would have to agree. Even though it has effects in it, I really don't think you can use the effects in real time as you play through it. It's a sampling sequencer, like an MPC 3000. It's not even a studio effects unit, much less a guitar effects unit.

But to answer your question directly: No, the signal would not be too strong. Even if it was and you were getting too much distortion, you could always just turn the output down.

Yeah, you can. Just set the sampling input to "input+insert," put the cable from the guitar into the input and run a cable from the mono out to the amp.

I been screwing around with this thing since I was in eight grade. Still got a scsi Zip drive and a stack of Zip discs full of sounds around here somewhere. I know what it's (usually) used for.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna blow my amp if I ran it through it. Thanks for the help, guys.

No, a guitar amp can take any signal short of a speaker level signal. If you give it too much signal, it will just distort.

You might want to try putting it in the amps effects loop, if it has one.
