amp direct to computer??

I would like to use my old Peavey "The Bass" transistor bass head for my bass sound. The manuals of the various inexpensive cab sims,(Behringer ultraG
being only $35)say you must also connect a speaker to provide resistance or risk damaging your tube amp. No mention of transistor amp,hmmm....Does this same warning apply to a solid-state head?

Does it have a line out? If it doesn't and you wanna run the line from the 'speaker out' jack on the amp, then you might blow up your computer.


If it does... can you post some pics of your poor tortured computer system, so all of us have a reminder "What NOT to do"!

You really don't want to run any amp without a load. A tube amp will melt down and give you a smoke show, a transistor head might survive. It depends on the design. A good rule of thumb would be not to do it.

A line out is one way you could do it. Or if you have an effects send, you could use that. But If you like the sound you get from the cab and the head, you could mic it with a bass drum mic or other specially designed mic for lower frequencies. That's how I record my bassist. BTW, it will sound better than just a line or effects out anyway.

that's not very nice, Mr.. If you checked the facts before giving your 2 cents, you would find that ultra-G,red box pro,etc. were made specifically for providing line level output from a speaker out. My question regarded a speakerless alternative to recording. Thanks anyway.
