I've been deciding recently between a J-Station, a Pod and a V-Amp. Then it struck me - there must be some all-software soution for people who want to add good effects and tones to their guitar. You know, something that allows you to plug directly into the PC and alter the sound of your output without having to use an external box. I'm interested only in recording - not playing live.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Thanks.

PS: Does anyone know of a reputable online musical instrument store that actually ships to Canada?

Without using an external box of some sort, you're pretty much left with applying tones/effects after you record. That's where amp modeling plugins come in. Steinberg Warp, CakeWalk FX amp sim, amplitude, etc. You can also use convolution software such as Sonic Foundry's Acoustic Mirror to apply sound impulses of modeled gear to your sound file.
