Please help! I have many original songs that I want to demo, and although I could record them one track at a time, I’d like to capture a certain feel by playing and singing simultaneously.

Here’s the deal: I need to record my vocal and guitar simultaneously onto separate tracks in Cool Edit Pro. I'm using an old Peavey (1980's) mixing board with twelve XLR inputs. I have the amplifiers mic'ed and going to separate XLR inputs on the mixing board. I'm then going RCA (one red and one white) from the mixing board's "Tape Out" to an 1/8" input in back of computer."

Does anyone know how I can configure Cool Edit Pro to have one track to “listen” to and record input Left and the other to “listen” to and record input Right?

Many thanks in advance!

The the header area for each track there's a "Rec1" button. Push that button to set up the input hardware and channel that you wish that track to record.

The "Out1" button does the same for playback.

what i would do with your situation and my gear ( i have similar gear)

1 mic on guitar >channel 1 on mixer: PAN HARD LEFT
2.mic on vox >channel 2 on mixer: PAN HARD RIGHT
3. use those rca outs you were talking about.
4. for the guitar track choose the input 1 (which will recorded the panned left
5. for the vox track choose the input 2 (which will record the panned right channel)

this should work. I don't use rca out i use xlr to 1/8 out though.

Hi guys,

Thanks much for the info. I'm headed down to the basement to experiment - hopefully I come out with some demos.

Peace,
