I can get hold of one of these for a very good price, and I've read good things about them.
Since buying a pair of SC-1s, I'm an ADK convert - anyone care to share info about the A-51?
Thanks.

I am a little late w/ my response:

But I say get the A51. I have two, a type 1 and a type V and they are both excellent mics. Great for drum overheads, acoustic guitar, and guitar cabinet.

They even have a hidden bass roll off inside.

How are you liking your Sc-1s? What are you using them for?

The SC-1s have seen a lot of action - great on larger bodied acoustics ( though, being wide cardioid they're not as directional as some may like & I've found you have to be pretty careful with placement if recording acoustic & vox at the same time), great as drum o/heads, I've also miked up acoustic bass, guitar amps, banjo, mandolin & various percussion with them - all with superb results. They REALLY love the mandolin!
Also, I've emailed Larry Villella a number of times with various questions about his mics, and each time he has replied within minutes & provided detailed, bullshit-free advice. Needless to say, I'm as impressed with his companys' attention to customer service as his products themselves.
He tells me that ADK are bringing out an updated version of the A-51 SC ( ST 1), with changeable capsules in December - maybe to rival the Oktava MC012 - so that should be worth a look.

Great! Thanks for the info.

I have emailed Larry Villella and had the same experience, quick response and good honest info. I actually called ADK one expecting to get a tech or customer support and he answered and talked my ear off about his mics.

I must say that so far I am quite impressed.

Thanks again,
Ian

Ian-

I have two of the A-51 Type III's.

They don't get put away much.

Great on horns, woodwinds, and passable as a snare mic.

Good on voices, particularly bright voices.

If a C-1 was one choice, and an MK-319 was the other, the ADK fits nicely in the middle.
