I always like to check what is available in Hagstrom Swede guitars as they've been my all-time favorites ( I have 3 vintage Swedes and a few reissues)...
...but I also love the Duesenberg line of guitars and have lusted after them for awhile now, though their prices have kept me from getting one.

Well, even though I'm currently hunting for a nice Gibson SG...a week ago I spotted a Duesenberg 49er in this gorgeous honey color. I saw it listed a few weeks ago with an open bid and a high BIN price.
Well, last week I hit it just 10 minutes after the guy relisted it, this time with a very sweet/low BIN price...he needed to sell it ASAP (money woes, apparently).

Anyway, I asked him a couple of questions and he responded immediately...and about 10 seconds later I hit the BIN. :)

The guitar is like-new. It came with the Duesenberg OHSC, which has to be one of the nicest cases I've ever seen. The guitar still had the original strings, decals and other included swag. He only had it for a short while and it doesn't look it got much play (no typical pic/fret marks)

It sounds VERY sweet, both the P90 (neck) and HB sound fantastic, and it plays real smooth. I can see why these guitars cost as much as they do. The build quality and attention to details, the hardware and electronics...everything...is absolutely TOP NOTCH!
Now I also want the Duesenberg Starplayer TV! :D

My pictures don't do it justice...you can see better ones on the Duesenberg website:

Now...back to my hunt for a Gibson SG! :p
(I think they have medication for this affliction). ;)

looks lovely...never heard them..mind you im not much of a guitarist and my entire collection prolly cost a lot less than this :)

Holy shit...

Man, I was playing some of these a few months back, including the Mike Campbell sig. The necks were just incredible and the pickups were fantastic too - can't remember the model number but one had a bucker in the neck and a P90 in the bridge. They really are fantastic looking and playing guitars, congrats!

The P90 in the neck works well, it's got decent growl, and it's actually not overly bright w/bite like some P90s can be.
This HB is very nice in the bridge. Most HBs in the bridge end up being WAY to hot for my taste, and they can end up with much too much edginess and HF bite (which is why I rarely ever play the bridge PU in any of my guitars)...but this one actually sound pretty nice.

I've already thought of at some point switching them around...just to see how they sound. I think it will work, since the Duesenberg P90 is a little darker than most.

I believe the Duesenberg pickups are in-house design...at this point, I like them. They are a different flavor to the PUs I have in other guitars...and IMO...that's a good thing.
I happened to stumble upon a Harmony Central thread about someone NOT liking their Doozy pickups that has gone to 17 pages in this one month!!! :D
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2612555
I haven't read through the 17 pages :) but I'm guessing this person had a very specific sound in their head before they purchased the Doozy...and it looks like by page 3 the OP changed his/her mind about the Doozy PUs...of course, they keep on going for 14 more pages!!! Kinda like here sometime, though HC is notorious for long running thread fights! :laughings:

I take most guitars as they come...and then I find a place for each of them in my tone arsenal. Same thing with amps.
And that's another thing...the amp and PUs work together, so a lot depends on that relationship if the final sound is what you like.

The natural woodgrain finish is awesome!..(my choice of finishes).

I've got a Swede..I love it..not that I can play well, but I really do love the feel, tone and playability of the guitar. It's gold(my least favorite color for a guitar)

That's sweet! True you have tons of drums!

That is a fine looking fiddle! Not sure how I feel about the D right on top there though.

So why did you pick the gold...they have other colors. :)
I actually wrote Hagstrom when they first came out with the reissues and chastised them for trying to be so LP-like by going with the goldtop.
Hagstrom had enough of its own history to go on without doing that. :(
But I still like the gold Hag...that's very nice looking guitar, as nice looking as any goldtop LP, IMO.

Of course...Hagstrom is now owned by money-hungry people who are just looking for the most marketability/sales...and IMO, they are fucking it up!
There is a potential for them to take Hagstrom reissues to a higher level, even higher than the vintage Hags...all they need to do is improve on the hardware and the overall setups/QC when they come out of the factory. Though generally the build quality is very good, there are way too many B-stock Hags floating out there due to crappy QC...so that devalues the rest of them which are quite well built for the most part.
I have a few Hag reissues, and a couple of them needed some serious setup work when I got them...even had to redress the frets on the upper register on one. Most buyers would get very pissed about that stuff as they are not able to fix those things by themselves.
But…all of the others I bought were all quite good right out of the box.
AFA the neck and action when properly set up...(sorry guys) ;) ...nothing can touch a Hag neck. It's that good. Vintage and reissue.

Anyway...this Doozy is IMO a cut above most guitars I've picked up, and that goes for the high-end Gibby stuff...build-wise.
Tone-wise...it's like anything...you have to try it, and then you either like it or not.
I'm digging the Doozy 49er and wouldn't hesitate getting another model when I find a decent price on a used one --- I'm not going to drop $3k on a new one. :D

True,
What make are your red congas ?

Miro,
I know almost zilch about guitars in this sense, but human beings I do know and your joy is tangible ! Keep enjoying, man !

Yeah...I've had congas on my purchase list for a long time!

Even though I have the regular drum kit in my studio...there have been a few times when congas were called for, and we ended up adjusting for lack of them. :(

Almost every instrument I own came from a very small music shop in my town(sadly..and to my GAS UNrelief, they closed down a few years back).

They had 2 Swedes..one in black,(which I liked the looks of a lot) and the Gold Top. The black one sounded just as good as the GOT, but didn't feel right in my hands...I dunno..like I said, I don't play well, but I know FEEL and the Golden one had the FEEL.

I'm a sucker for looks and get all excited by finishes, but more of a sucker and more excited, for that FEEL I get from a guitar. It could be the ugliest guitar in the shop, but if it feels right, I'll take it home. If it has a good tone, but doesn't feel like it belongs in my hands, I see no use to buy it either.

Playability is most important to someone like me, who contends every step of the way to play. I have enough hurdles to jump, without struggling with playability!

I have to say, ALL of my guitars are my favourite guitar..strange..it's like having a harem of men I love, enjoying and appreciating each one for their own qualities..but I gotta love and care for 'em all on a regular basis or they get all bent outta tune!:D

And I'm waaay overdue for gettin' my guit fix.

You've got a beautiful guit there Miro!
