When you have time (ha ha) plug up the port on yours and see if it helps. It just sounds to me like you are getting phase issues because the sound is coming from the front and the back of the speaker inside that little box. Normally a 57 half way between the dust cap and the edge on axis should give you a usable sound. My favorite is aiming it to where the dust cover meets the cone.
