Hey everyone,

I'm buying a condenser mic for my vocals. There's so many to choose from though! After searching around the internet I have found two mics at similar prices. I'm finding it hard to choose out of the two and I just want your opinions on what you think is the best!

Here are the mics. Both come with suspension shock mounts. (follow links for specifications):

AKG Perception 420 - click here for specifications

sE2200A - click here for specifications

Thanks everyone,
Matt.

And this could be your experience.

I don't have experience with either of these mics but have not heard much good about the perception series. What made you narrow it down to these two?

Hey darrin_h2000,

thanks for the video, it helped! If Amy Winehouse is using it, then it must be pretty good! :D

Hey Caotico,

well I did some searching around the internet and found both of these mics to be in my price range. They're both well known brands too, which is pretty good! I've also watched videos of people using them, and they both seem to sound pretty nice :)

This is my first condenser microphone so i'm new to the whole thing. Have any of you guys seen anything in the specifications that shows one to be better than the other?

Thanks for your replies guys,
Matt.

I have an AKG Perception 200 and love it for many different situations. I think you need to try an assortment of mics that complement your vocals. Some mics might make you sound bad where other mics might make your vocals sound amazing. I would imagine the 400 would be a good mic for you, depending on the style of your music. I hope this helps you a little.

You could split the question up like this also;
Look for the best specific fit within the budget range for your voice in which you should try many.
Just starting out', and/or could use the options and three frequency responses of a multi-pattern. That could also be 'the fit' (or least a decent one) but noting our notion of 'right shifts as our experience changes and try out and move on to different things anyway.

Stores not allowing returns on mics is a PITA to top it off. ;)

Just think of all the used choices we would have in the stores without that policy...its not like we are buying used toothbrushes.
