DAW Users With ADD

I could really stimulate the economy if I had any money.:o
Someone needs to start stimulating my economy. I can't keep spending my retirement money on major purchases. :(

Of course, all will be OK as long as I croak within the next 5 years or so. :o

And in the meantime, the new TV is preeeeeetttttty nice. :D

So Boys, its the eve of Christmas eve, there is snow outside and tomorrow I get to let the staff home early in the afternoon ready for Christmas day:)

And before we bade our household staff goodbye for Christmas we had them lay up the dining room table in preparation for the Christmas Turkey lunch.;) (only kidding, my Mom and Wifey did it today:)) Well, its just like having staff, thats why us blokes get married.;)

All my bits have now arrived for building my new DAW - I have so enjoyed the planning and research into this, I almost don't want to build it:rolleyes: A case of the journey being better than the arriving.:o Wifey has put all the bits in a box and has wrapped it up ready for Christmas. Its the biggest box under the tree:D:cool:

Sorry to hear about your TV Mike; we have a house full of them that never get used; in fact we have remodelled bedrooms that never get used either:( And they all have Sony flat screen HD TV's:rolleyes: You could come and stay with us anytime; we are looking for a new gardener;)

Take care guys, catch you later.:)

Geez, you could've just sent me one as my Christmas present.

:D

My kids, grandkid, and mother are coming here tomorrow. I'll be feeding them, providing them with wine, and passing out presents. I sort of feel like Santa Claus (without the jolly part).

Merry Christmas, all. Hope you get everything you want.

Merry Christmas guys!
It's my fifteenth anniversary today,I worked in the morning and my wife is working tonight, whoo hoo!
I'm working tommorow, looking forward to a three day weekend. We're too busy for me to get any time off,I guess you have to make hay while the sun is shining.

LATER!!!

This year, wifey and I celebrate thirty two years of marriage. In the seven years before we had kids, we never argued. Then when the kids came along, we argued all the time. Now that they have grown up and moved on, peace has broken out again. Go figure:confused::)

Enjoy your day with your family Mike. I look forward to hearing positve news on the employment front for your son and son in law soon. These are tough times to be out of work. We had our family Christmas gathering last week for wifeys mob and we have one guy out of work, two under threat and one on short time working. Not good.:(

Happy Christmas!

Sonar PE 8.5 Loaded the new "update" yesterday. Am loving the following:

  • New dark layout
  • Session Drummer 3
  • Live connecting of USB devices (how many times have I had to close the program and start over because I have forgotten to switch on my USB Controller?)
  • Better loop auditioning

Have fun!

Mike, by my reckoning, you will be cooking breakfast and getting ready for your family to arrive about now. And when you are all done and finished, tired and exhausted, doesn't it feel good to know that Mr Obama's Health reforms have made it through the senate?;)

:D

Its Christmas Day!

Have just finished dinner, girls are tidying up and then its pigging it out in front of the TV with a host of comedy videos for the rest of the day although we are threatening to start on the Karaoke sometime soon.:D

I got something smelly, something to wear, something to read, something to play with, something to eat, something to spend, something to listen to and something to watch.:)

Have a good one, my best wishes to you all and your families.

Later!

It's all over but the shouting here. However, in a little while I will be introducing myself to a bottle of Tuscan red and some leftover baked ziti and sausage.

Hope you guys got everything you wanted. I got a new cell phone, however, I am planning to trade it in next week for a new Blueray DVD player. You can't have a 1080p TV without having something you can watch in 1080p. ;)

The sin of the whole thing is that my TV's keep getting clearer and clearer, while my eyes keep getting worse and worse. I suspect that all-in-all I'm just running in place.

I am with you on the TV situation - I can't tell the difference between HD and SD TV unless I am sitting no more than 4 feet away:eek:

Over to daughter #1 for late lunch today - a hot curry. That should sort out everyones bowel movements for the next week.;)

Good morning!

I made it through Christmas alive once again. We had no guests and it was a pajama day, still the house is a shambles.

I have to return an electronic drum pad I got my son as it stopped working after an hour's use, other than that everything turned out okay.

I got a minimalist Camcorder,Flip something. The software for it sucks and it saves in a format I hadn't heard of,but it plays fine on Windows media player. The sound is high end,as in that's all you hear.:rolleyes:I probably would've liked something nicer, but at the price it's really just a trinket or a toy.

I'm pretty far behind on all the new technology.I recently went to Best Buy and was surprised at the tiny web book lap tops.I find it hard to keep up with what's the latest thing, but much like Mike's TV dilemma, the stuff is priced so you just keep on buying the new stuff.

I got myself a Behringer:eek: delay pedal,at $30 I figured it wasn't much of a risk.Built cheaply,a complete knockoff of a Boss pedal, but perfectly suited for the light duty it will see in my house.I may buy a few more of these.:D

Today it's to the brother in law's,tomorrow my dad is coming over for the game and a little Christmas celebrating.

Well I've got to help clean the house now,

LATER!!!

Happy New Year!!

Only a few more hours to go here; just finished dinner and then its a quiet night in besides the fire, watching TV and drinking with wifey, Mom and Dad.

Finished building my new DAW PC today; don't want to hex it but its looking good so far. Tomorrow, I will load the O/S - Win XP.;)

Interesting seeing my Mom and Dad's reaction to building it - they are now convinced they spawned a genius of megga proportions as I slowly built it on the kitchen table in a few hours. :( Of course, we all know that its not like that; its just a matter of plug and play.:)

Anyway, I trust you all have a good evening and look forward to a more positive year next year:D

Happy New Year!!

Right back at you!! :D :D

Most of the art is in knowing which components to buy. The actual assembly is fairly easy. Good luck with it. BTW, why XP? I would have thought you would have gone with Windows 7.

Dachays

Our lead singer is off on his annual 8-week pilgrimage to Aruba this Sunday. So the Dachays will be on hiatus for a bit. :( We had a "final" practice last night. Sounded pretty good... but it usually does after a half bottle of Johnny Walker Black. :o :)

Dachays

Thanks, off to bed now after a quiet night in.

The art of buying the right components took over a year in the planning and research against a constant changing tide of technology but in the end the components self select pretty much, once you set your budget.

So, a new decade and a new quad CPU DAW to play with. :)

Why XP? Because it's stable and I didn't want another learning curve plus I'm not sure all my VSTi's would work in Win 7 yet. Plus there is uncertainty about the real tangible benefits of moving to 64 bit platform. I will do at some stage, but not quite yet.

Have fun!:)

HAPPY NEW YEARS!
Bring on 2010!

We're staying in as usual, not even having a real dinner.
We just watched District 9,creepy,disturbing,good movie. My son and I are going to see Avatar tomorrow.

Which means right about the time they get it all down pat,it'll be obsolete.

I'm thinking building may be the only way I can afford a new computer.:(O have the added headache of either need a MOBO with PCI slots or upgrading my UAD cards.:(:(:(

Let us know how you come out.

So then I imagine we'll be hearing some of your recordings in the near future? ;) ;)
Maybe;)

My yougest daughter and her boyfriend saw Avatar yesterday and reports it as being "excellent - Lord of the Rings x 1000%." However, it seems to be panned by the critics.

One of the reasons I chose to upgrade now is because very soon, PCI slots in MoBo's will disapear and I didn't want the expense of buying a new soundcard. Having said that, I am considering buying a F/wire interface but it depends on how long wifey's patience with my current spending spree lasts out

I must confess, putting all this lot together and spending $2k makes you sweat when you first push that "on" button, but so far so good. BIOS got tweaked yesterday and with a bit of luck, I can load XP today.

A couple of surprises/concerns along the way; the i7 CPU chip has no pins and socket holes - just friction holds the CPU in place. Plus the amount of torque required to push the locking lever in place was a bit scary - much more than I expected to exert. And then, did I put enough thermal paste on the cooler? However, as reported above, it all seems to be hanging together well - CPU temp was only 36 Deg C after half an hour. (98 Deg F).

All in all, I reckon I have saved about $800+ compared to if I had bought it from a specialist DAW company.

It's the only way I can reach you.

The Badgers beat Miami the other day,Brett Bielema saves his job.

2010
Well,it's here.
I come into this new decade with a bit of uncertainty but with a solid foundation. My son turns 13 this month,my daughter 11 the month after. This decade will be their decade, from preteens to adulthood by the decades end.My only goals for this decade are to get the kids into college and build the nest egg, anything else will be gravy.

The weather
It's going to be cold all weekend.

I may have to look into this,as I have a Delta 66 and three UADs,I could be looking at a huge loss when I decide it's time to upgrade. But then again, shouldn't I be able to get a decent computer cheaper now?I don't need much more power than I have now and I'm assuming todays rigs can handle anything you can throw at them.

Either way I have a rig that works now,it's just that one day I'll flick the switch,it won't turn on and I'll be at the crossroads.
