The government is already planning for that. Its one of the reasons that 401K/IRAs are being pushed so heavily. There are no pension systems left for new workers these days. Anyone who even contributes even modestly to a Roth IRA can easily build a respectable fund. Compounding and aggressive investment strategy will beat SS any day. You don't need to be a millionaire to save for retirement if you start early!

The problem will be when the government decides to tax those "tax free" retirement funds in 20 or 30 years. Social security used to be tax free. The government changed the rules in 1983 when benefits became taxable. To me, that was stupid. Pull extra funds out of the SSI trust, and then tax them for the general fund. Net result, SSI goes broke faster, and you end up losing.

So this Supreme Court "court-packing" nonsense that the Dems are signaling they will do...and then stupidly claiming that Trump has already been court-packing.
They also claim the current court system is now "illegitimate"...that's the narrative they are selling the people, to pave the way for a major court overhaul that only benefits the Dems.

OK...so Obama, the do nothing president...leaves office after 8 years...and also leaves over 100 empty federal judicial seats (I think that was the number) that he could have appointed...these are lifetime appointments in various federal courts.
He fails to do his job for the Dems...and they say nothing.
So Trump comes into office...sees all these empty seats, and proceeds to fill them all...he does his job...and the Dems complain that he is packing the court.


I know...people will say the Reps blocked him...but those seats didn't all become empty in 2016 before the election. Obama didn't really try.
Let's face it...Dems have, and will, attempt to block the Rep president when they want to...so it's not like Trump is doing something radical by filling empty seats...which is different from adding more new seats to sway the court in your direction...which is what the Dems want to do.

The reason it goes from one party to the other is, politicians promise the world and deliver very little. So, people get frustrated and the other party wins.

That's probably part of it but I think there's a lot more to it than that.

What part of England do you live in? I've been to London, Stoke-On-Trent, Manchester, Brighton and wherever Stonehenge is

I live in north west London. But I've been all over the British Isles. As far as I can remember, Stoke is the only place on your list I've not been to but I've by-passed it quite a few times.
