If you're like me and don't like to spend even $20-30 on some small necessities of recording, then you're in for a treat.
Today, I spent $5 to make a mic clip you can attach to a snare drum or a tom tom.
All you need is a small, maybe 3-4 inch high, 2-3 in deep C-Clamp. It's about $3-5 at Home Depot, but most of you who own a house probably already have one in the toolbox =]
Next, you'll need a mic clip as such: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musicians-Friend-ClipType-Mic-Holder?sku=276011
If you already own a mic stand, you can just use the mic clip you use for that.
After that, you'll need something to bolt into the mic clip (so either find a bolt in your house that fits it or buy one for 90 cents at Home Depot). The bolt should be 4 inches - 5 inches.
And then, attach C-Clamp to the Rim of the snare/tomtom.
Screw in the bolt into the mic clip.
Duck tape the bolt to the c-clamp.
Adjust Mic clip as needed to position into the tom/snare.
Voila!!
Very simple, very effective. Very good way to make a mic clamp out of $5 instead of $25.
