Cassette tape motor speed issues.

Hi all,

Some of you may have seen my ongoing saga with an akai mg614.

It came into my possession with eratic tape speed issues and a fault whereby the tape speed selector and pitch pot did not function.

The simple things were ruled out like the switch and pot etc.

Information is extremely sparse on these but I found out that it uses the same mechablock as the GX52 and some other decks, so I got a spare mechablock from a guy on a tape forum.

I had suspicions that the fault was Hall effect sensor related, so rather than replacing the whole mechablock, I replaced the back pcb upon which the motor coils and hall sensors are located.

Boom :) Problem solved, 100% for about 5 days.

Now the fault has come back.

I'm not so sure about the hall sensor 'guess' now, cos If i read the Hall voltage and manually restrict the flywheel, I see fluctuations in voltage.

Here are images of the front and back of the pcb that I've replaced.

I've since replaced the flywheel and FG coil board just to rule them out, to no avail.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

The only other thing to note is that i read about 0.8v difference between pos and neg voltages into the board pictured above.
Don't know if that's relevant or not, but there you go.

Anything at all is appreciated guys. I'd love to get this old girl working again.
