try a piecewise,if you like the sound and if its just for recording use a different kick drums, maybe your pacific , and if you like other snares or something just put one together, i have seen alot of crazy basterdized drumsets put together for a pretty good recording sound

you should be able to buy some stuff that is a contactcleaner/lubricant just flood it with that stuff and that may work

i never really noticed much of a difference with mic cables ... but mainly all of mine are the cheap proformance ones(50 bucks for mognomi is kinda rough) but with guitar tone those monster rock cables can make a HUGE difference

personally, i would kick your ass. he tunes them the way he wants them to sound, if he didnt want them to sound like that he would probably try tuning them different

use it with any mic you would use on a kick, its more or less the same as a yamaha subkick. my best results were actually with an old speaker that had a double cone in it(one little one about 5 inches sticking infront of a 12) it was really clean, acutally really sensitive and captured a wider...
