In the last few days, I've been reading a lot of articles online about EQ, mixing, etc... some are too technical for me to grasp, while others are very helpful and written in plainer language. This is from an article at prorec.com ("All Things Being EQ-ual, pt.1" -- thanks for the tip, esactun...
When you open the "mixdown song" window, click on "more options"...there, you'll see "Channels" where you can choose between stereo and mono. If you've panned the tracks to different positions, you mixdown in stereo.
How do you like nTrack so far? I've been using it for a few weeks only and...
Does di stand for direct input? digital input? dumbass idiot?
(While we're on abbreviations, does I/O, when referring to mixers, simply stand for input/output? There should be a glossary out there for clueless folk like me. Or maybe there is and I'm too clueless to know it!?)...
Thanks for the insights...
Tex: Is there a battery somewhere that might need changing? Yes! Sorry, I forgot that the guy said if it buzzed, I should change the battery. My bad!
Chris: I have 2 git amps, but for vocals and acoustic, I used the 3 channel fender amp for gigging. Right now...
Not sure if this would be best posted in the guitar forum, but here goes...
I had a Fishman under the saddle pickup put in my acoustic git a few months back. The luthier said it was an active pickup, but I didn't have him install the EQ (too queasy about a hole in my baby!)
Running my git...
I really dont like the sound of that high hat and snare though..
I 2nd Sam's comments -- the cymbals are annoying. I don't know much, but I don't think the addition of a bass would help that.
The lyrics, as has been said, are fun, though the singing lacks some soul, like you're holding...
I like the chord changes and the melody (though the voice could be louder). The 2 guitar solos are too much -- there are also too many crash cymbals going on in the verses.
The overall mood is really cool -- ethereal!

I have NO friggin' clue (ok, a little -- very little) as to how to work EQs, Compression, Noise Gate, etc. (check out my songs and you'll hear for yourself!):(
Any suggestions on a comprehensive, but easy to understand (if that's possible!) book on how all this works?

Thanks, everyone.
Trip- I wanted to keep the AM radio voice, but I can't seem to lessen the harshness, so I'll take your advice and re-record this track. When you say "so much else was going on with the instruments in that space", do you mean in that section of the song, or in that frequency...
I have only used the SM57 in a live show -- that was years ago, but it was a great mic.
For acoustic guitar and voice, I use an AKG D65s. It was about $50. It's a well-built mic -- I've dropped it several times. And while it's not an SM57, it's pretty decent.
Personally, I'll be looking...
The recording is quality -- it kinda does sound like Peter Gunn!
The lyrics, as has been stated, are really general and benign. There are some great rock songs that have silly lyrics, but they also have other positives that make up for that. This doesn't seem to have that.
The bridge...
Hi all,
In a burst of energy, I rerecorded all the tracks to "Things You Have to Keep" today.
I added a lead guitar throughout and sped it up some. I also dropped the AM radio voice after the first verse. The mix is still rough, but I have little clue as to what I'm doing -- there's so many...
Pete -
"Cool tune!"
Thanks, the more I work on it, the more I like it. I'll be posting a remix soon.
"was the bass real... How did you record it?"
Yep, that's me. It's a Squire Jazz through a Fender KXR. My little bro is much better, so I'll have him do a tighter track soon.
As for...
Matt's Letter -- awesome guitar, but the stops get a bit annoying after a while. Really nice vocals! The tune is a bit long, I think. It seems like the type of song that would work best under 4 mins. The chorus is especially catchy and gets lost under too many other sections. GREAT ending...
Great tune --
Around 3:30, I thought it was getting a bit long, but the jam at the end is fun. The solo git toward 3:45 is thin -- and has too many notes, but I like minimalist stuff.
I really like the organ at the beginning. Ditto others' comments on the vocals.
The Question is a lot of fun!
