    Virtual v. Real Tracks

In the VF80 description, it says "16 virtual tracks, 8 real tracks" -- excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference? thanks G

    Small pc tower -- soundcard?

I think so... it's a very new pc. How do I find out for sure? In Device Manager? Thanks.

What do you this of this USB audio 24/96 from behringer

Yes, I've been mulling that option over, too. Part of me doesn't want the pc to be the only link in the chain. I fear losing everything in a crash. Thanks for the input.

    Small pc tower -- soundcard?

Thanks, but that's the problem. I don't have one available. The thing is small, which is why we bought it -- it takes up very little room. Thanks for the input. G

    Easy/Dumb Question

Thanks for the input. Yes, I am on a budget (new baby, new house -- yikes!). So, let's say I buy one of these -- I don't need a new soundcard, too, right? It says on their site, . Sounds like this IS the soundcard! It also sounds too easy. Is there a catch? Can such quality transfer of...

What do you this of this USB audio 24/96 from behringer

So, let me get this straight... I can connect the Lexicon Omega Studio USB Audio Interface into my PC via the USB port, and use nTrack or some other software (I see one is included with this)? Do I also need a different soundcard than my pc came with? Seems too good to be true. G

Is the ALSQ all you NEED?

Thanks for the article. I see some of these great home studios and feel a bit inadequate at times. Then I remind myself to spend less time reading and dreaming and more time playing. Thanks. G

    Small pc tower -- soundcard?

I have a Dell Optiplex -- very small PC. Is a Tascam US-122 USB Audio/MIDI Interface (#240868 at musiciansfriend.com) the type of thing I need to take the place of a soundcard? Here's where I'm at. I'm relatively new to all this, but have used and like nTrack. Til now, I've just used the...

    Studio Photos Link?

    Easy/Dumb Question

I have a Dell Optiplex (it's real small). A regular size soundcard won't fit in the tower (it's not even a tower--this thing's tiny). So, is there some sort of "outboard" soundcard that I could plug into the Dell's USB? Or do I drag out my old HP ( a real-size tower)? Is this where...

    Studio Photos Link?

Hey, all -- long time, no talk. Where is that page with pics of users' studios? I'm in need of some inspiration. Spring is around the corner and there's a new Home Depot in town. G

    new old songs

Erich - Thanks for taking a listen. I appreciate your response and the comments about my voice. I've always thought that was my weakest 'link' so to speak. Now I'm realizing that title goes to my mixing! I'm so unsure of where the vocals should be in all my songs. Sometimes...

Help! I need some mixing advice for a new recording!

I like the song, and though the singer has a nice voice, she does seem to be holding back. Also, there are enough highs in the mix. Everything seems muddy, but again, the song is a good one! g ;)

    Labotamize Me!

I agree that the recording is rough, but the song overall is cool. The vocals seem out of tune most of the time, esp. in the verses. Sabbath makes a good point that the guitars sound too direct. The playing is very good, but it needs to 'breathe' to really do justice to the playing. g

    new old songs

Trip -- Thanks for the comments.... I can't tell if that was a mistake at :04 or if it was intended to be played like that. Yeah, that's a mistake, but I kept it, 'cuz I liked it. Ok, ok -- I was too lazy to fix it! I'm glad you liked the drums kicking in. That idea alone was what made me...

    Things Remake

Shows good progress from the last mix I listenned to. Retro - Thanks. That's all I'm looking for -- each new mix being a little better than the last! Thanks again for taking the time to listen (again). g :D

One more try, please give this a listen.

bass and vocals are supposed to be centered (right?) and the remaining guitar part is supposed to have another guitar part, so instead of panning a little off to the right or left I just left that centered as well until I re-record the other part. I just recently figured out what panning is...

Having a hard time with this one...

This reminds me of a song my college band wrote called, "She's so Shallow." It's not very polished, but it doesn't seem you're going for that, so who cares? Fun tune. g
