new session recorded using delta 1010 & 410

I agree, to a point. Though it never kicks in, I think it works like that. It's like a sustained perch on a cliff -- like we're teetering on the edge the whole time. I could hear this at a rave. THis is a very cool, very well-done song. I do fully agree, though, that it needs something...

    --Long Cool Woman--

Darn kids ;) Tell 'em to give you a few more minutes. Though clean, the vocals FEEL forced -- like you were definitely rushing. The overall mix is sharp and clean and all that, but I'm not feeling the singing. Almost as if your mind was somewhere else. I know that sounds corny/cheesy, but...

Jazz- "You must take the A-train" - mixing/mastering suggestions

Cool! It's nice to hear something other than classic/hard rock. Just what I needed on a friggin' cold Saturday morning. I think the bass is too quiet. The sax is killer, but the bass gets drowned out. I like bass, so I'm biased. Also, the bass could have more punch to it. It sounds a...

    Give it to me straight....

Sweet Thing -- I don't have a problem with the direct guitar. I think it sounds fine. I'm not a perfectionist. However, the song kinda gets old after awhile. Do you have any old lyrics lying around? It'd be neat to hear something sung over this. Maybe a female singer? WYWH -- I'm not...

    Any comments on these recordings?

Almost Drowning -- I really like this one. There's a groove that's easy to fall into. The chorus is the weak link -- it doesn't have the punch that the verses do. Arrangement-wise, that is. Just a Game feels forced. I'm not sure why, but it feels as if the vocals, the playing, etc --...

What a sap -- new song

Hey all, Thanks for checking this out. I know the mix is rough. I guess I'm more curious about your thoughts on the lyrics/song structure. Nobody's perfect -- how boring would that be? ;) http://www.geocities.com/gmiller1122/

    "Gargoyle" Please critique

I like it. It reminds me of my high school band, too. I agree with the others. It could be half as long and it needs a chorus. Just a slight shift in chords. This will also force your singer to play around with other melodies. Keep having fun. G

    guitar/piano

Hey, Sam -- Thanks for a cool listen. It seems to be a unique mix of jazz, pop, muzak, and a movie soundtrack. I agree with kjam -- the drums are the weakest part. But, the mood, though shifting, is seamless. Very nice work. G

    Lend me your ear

I really enjoyed these songs. I like My Shawty the best. The keys in the background give it a cool, dark sound. The chorus is the only part that's lacking -- kinda boring. I'm not really into this type of music, but I completely appreciate the mix -- very clean and crisp. I also respect...

    Flash card capacity?

Thanks, PJ So, you use the USB for the transferring?

    Flash card capacity?

I'm curious -- Can you tell me your exact set-up/process for transferring info from the MR8 to your PC? Thanks.

    Flash card capacity?

Thanks, Dave. Boy, that ain't much, is it? I'm assuming, then, that you either buy a lot of 128 cards (not very practical!) or you fill it up, transfer it to PC, and re-use indefinitely. On the same note, a unit like the VF160 with the 20 gig hard drive -- that's like 150 songs of 5-6 tracks...

    Tascam 788 outputs

    Thanks, Phil.
  14. gmiller1122

    Flash card capacity?

Some units come with the 128 MB flash card -- I've heard this is around 60 mins. BUT, does that include all tracks? That is, if you have 5 tracks at 5 mins. each, that's 25 minutes -- so will a 128 MB card only hold two simple songs? OR do the tracks get saved on a hard drive, THEN you mix...

    Help

Dave, How do you connect the mixer to the pc? Do you use the standard soundcard and the 1/8 input? Thanks, G

    Tascam 788 outputs

Hey, all -- I was reading that some units have "coaxial S/PDIF output" -- what's that for exactly? Is this another way to mix tracks down to a PC program like nTrack? (besides using the stereo outputs) Thanks. G

    Virtual v. Real Tracks

Many thanks, guys. This helps a lot. a12, this is very clear -- I appreciate it. It reminds me of having 20 baseball players, but only 9 can be in the lineup at one time. (I hope that's a decent analogy). I do like the idea of having more real tracks, but, jeesh, the price tag is getting...

    Small pc tower -- soundcard?

sae, kinda makes sense, but I'm confused. Don't all usb thingys claim to have zero latency monitoring? Also, why is the us-122 only usb 1.1? Is it old? G

    Small pc tower -- soundcard?

Thanks...yup, I got 2.0. But I've been reading some bad things about the USB connection hardware. Seems lots of folks have problems with latency, etc. Then I considered firewire, but that means I'd need to install it via PCI, and that ain't happening. I'm now leaning toward a digital...

What do you this of this USB audio 24/96 from behringer

Do all pc's have firewire inputs? I see some extra 'holes' in the back of the pc, but aren't sure what they're for! I've read that firewire is more stable, too. Hmmm....decisions, decisions....
