    Is it worth it?

I bought nTrack cuz it's inexpensive, and I love it. I have nothing to compare it to, but it's easy to use and well worth the money. G

    Minimalist studios?

mshilarious -- I hear you. Space is tight. I'm in the corner of our office. So, essentially, my work area is 6x6. However, if I only had more time, space, and money....hmmm....???? Then I could REALLY distract myself from actually playing music! mawtangent -- Good points! I really...

MR-8 - does anyone set their's on a wedge for easier access?

Me, too -- I wish I had given it a slightly greater tilt, but it works well. Foldout legs OR a tilted screen would be great ideas. How many people stand DIRECTLY over their equipment anyway?! junplugged -- Cool setup. From the Fostex to the ART pre to the MXL 67, it looks VERY familiar...

    limitations on my mr8 frustrating

I hear you -- when I started on this board a few years ago, I thought all I'd need is a 4-track! I have a VF80 now, which I really enjoy working with. You get the 8 tracks, plus 16 additional tracks to mess with. However, I could see wanting 16 tracks down the road. The VF80 is relatively...

Good idea for VF80 to sit at an angle?

Hey! I'm doing the same thing right now. Jeesh, I wish the vf80 had a tilt screen. I'm building a small, angled platform with a rubber covering and a lip at the low/front end to keep the unit in place. I haven't finished, but I think it'll work and keep me from straining my neck! G

do you use an isolation booth at home?

I run my mic into the can (powder room, bathroom, etc.). It's a small room, and right across from the room where I record. I am thinking about making movable sound barriers using rigid insulation, wrapped in fabric. G

    Standard Ceiling Tile?

Good question -- I care as much as there's a difference , I'm sure, between drywall and dropped ceiling tiles, being the most available and practical choices. So, within my budget and within these choices, what are some pros/cons of each? That is, I care to some degree. Sorry for the...

    Minimalist studios?

Ethan, My kinda guy! Though I'm still figuring gear out, I'm slowly understanding the difference between what looks cool and what is actually worth the time and money and space! b-h, Thanks for the input. Yeah, I started out thinking I'd need only 2 guitars -- an acoustic and an electric. I...

    Standard Ceiling Tile?

Ah, here's where you're working under a faulty assumption! :D My goal is to keep it simple, not perfect. I'm not a perfectionist -- this is a hobby, not an obsession. Therefore, I don't intend to make the space perfect. Nor do I want to spend a lot more time or money than is 'worth it'...

    Minimalist studios?

Just curious -- Is there anyone here who is NOT a gearhead -- that is, you choose to keep things relatively simple in terms of gear -- not out of necessity or lack of funds, but more because you A) Don't like clutter, B) Feel it just gets in the way, C) Have decided that 'less is more', or D)...

    Standard Ceiling Tile?

Sorry -- that picture didn't come out right. But I think you get my drift -- so that the room will have a slight octagon shape.

    Standard Ceiling Tile?

I wanted to bump this up since I had the same question -- I'm beginning from scratch, building a room in the basement. But do I put in a drop ceiling or make it out of drywall? Also, should I build walls in the corners to begin with? Like this... _____ / \ | | |...

    Happy with VF80 so far

I bought a VF80 and just recently was able to record something -- life has been VERY busy! I just wanted to say that I'm very impressed with the sound quality and the ease of use. I was intimadated by the manual and the tiny screen, but the interface is surprisingly user-friendly. I can't...

    adding effects to parts

Jeesh, Teej, I was doing it all wrong. I would copy (or cut) and paste that part of the track into a new track, then add echo, etc. there. Your way definitely seems easier and saves on tracks. Thanks for the info. G

    VF80 without a CD burner

I recently bought the VF80 WITH the CD burner. Though over my budget, I really, really, don't have much time to record, let alone mess around with connectors, etc. The CD burner seems as if it will make transferring files to the PC so much easier. Needless to say, I have only gotten so far as...

    Order of Effects/Pedals?

See, that's what makes our country so great. We can agree to agree...or else. I've always put the comp. first. I've tried it w/the wah first, but came up w/a flat sounding wah, like you said, AC. Thanks for the input, fellas. G

    acoustic elec vs acoustic/mic

I agree. While my pickup sounds nice and full live, it sounds tinny recorded. I prefer the mic for recording, too. G

    Order of Effects/Pedals?

Hey, all -- I came across the following article: http://ftp.newave.net.au/~gmarts/fx-order.htm It details the best way to order your effects. Some things he says are opposite of what I've heard elsewhere, and I know that it ultimately comes down to personal preference and trying new combos...

    Free guitar price listing?

Sonic, Thanks. That helps a lot. I'd say mine is in the 98% range. I've taken very good care of it. It's depreciated some since I bought it, but not much. I think I paid 380 or so, about 12 years ago. I'm not looking to sell, just curious. I'll tell you, it's more beautiful looking (nice...

    if you couldn't afford a SM57...

If you only have $75 -- remember, most of us were there once -- and want to get started, then it makes perfect sense to me. When I was 17, poor, and curious, my buddy and I bought a mixer and mics at R.Shack and had a rollicking good time. It didn't sound good, but we learned some simple (I...
