Old songs I did - need input

I like the feel of Slipping Away. It has a cool groove. the vocals seem a bit lost in the mix. Maybe just turn em up a bit? I like the melody in the chorus, but again, the guitar drowns out the voice. good tune! g

Man I hope this isn't considered screamo...

I like it. But I agree with the comments above. More kick, more bass. Sounds thin. Keep going! G

    Seconds recording

I agree. I keep expecting drums to kick in. But she has a nice voice. The guitar and keys are so repetitive that it takes away from this, though. Definitely has talent to build around. Good job! G

I agree. Nice mixes, but the songs are lacking emotion. That being said, you have a unique sound, and I like the lyrics in parts. Keep writing! G

Two new acoustic songs that I just mixed... I'd love your opinions and sugestions!

Great vocals. 1st song, the git is weak. Maybe some compression there and some reverb to the overall song to fix the 2 separate rooms thing. 2nd song, maybe more instruments. The git is so simple. Maybe some simple percussion?

Things to do in a studio under construction when you're bored

I took my daughter for a hearing test the other day -- as soon as we entered this tiny room, our voices just seemed to drop to the floor. The space was SO dead. Very cool. I wonder if they rent the space out? HA! :D G

How to I deal with HD noise on my VF-16?

Just wanted to respond to this -- I completely agree. I kind of like the noise of a random truck passing by or the water heater clicking on. Birds, kids, thunder, phone ringing -- they can all be annoying, but can also be very interesting in the mix. Just my 2 cents. G

    College Girl

Thanks, guys -- I really appreciate the comments. powerkor -- I love the 60's sound, and while I don't know enough about mixing to duplicate it, I guess I fiddle w/the knobs until it sounds as decent as possible. I agree the drums are the weakest link. They're fun to play, but man, they're...

Hey, all -- Here's a new tune I'd appreciate you checking out. It's my first time recording my own drumming -- comments on this (playing/recording of...) and anything else (vocals, overall mix, lyrics, etc.) would be great. Thanks. G...

    Opinions on this stuff?

Listening to These are the Days... I like it! Good melody and chord progressions. I like the harmonies, but the vocals don't seem to sit well in the mix. A little reverb? Overall, the song has good variety to keep our attention. Cool tune. When you Fall... 1:00 of music is a lot for me...

    tell me what you think...

Hey, I listened to a few of your songs and read some lyrics. You have a unique way of structuring your songs. I like how you avoid the verse/chorus/bridge pattern. Some lyrics I like: "to divide these colors wispered into swirls, of oil in our dreams" "I'll find the tools to wind these...

Thanks, Songwriter....I appreciate the suggestions on the vocals and bass. I've heard of that distortion suggestion before, but have yet to try it. I wonder if it will help the bass to sound less like farting (something I can't seem to cure!)... Thanks again. G

    limitations on my mr8 frustrating

Well, THAT sounds familiar. I, too, once questioned the whole EQ, compression, etc. thing. "Who needs it?" I asked. But sound is a funny thing. When you record, your signal is so colored by your equipment / setting that your basic track doesn't sound 'correct'...so it takes EQ, etc. to make...

    Recording Vocals into PC?

I highly recommend nTrack software. At $50 or so, it's a great bargain. www.fasoft.com This is all you need to record (and a mic), though a better soundcard (and better mic, and better...) will make a big difference. Have fun. G

12 min song on an MR8? Here's a puzzler for you techies

Richard, I get the feeling you're repeating yourself...hehe... :D I'm curious about the wav manager from fostex. Why do you need this? Does the MR8 save files in a format other than wav? G
