My £50 modded mic vs Neumann U87ai for vocals

I have had no mic mods. Funnily enough Henry just pointed out why. I'd sooner buy the actual mic and that's what I do. None of my comments so far have been about mods. I have simply agreed with the advice of another poster. Are you done?

My £50 modded mic vs Neumann U87ai for vocals

From experience, of course. I think you'll find that pretty well anyone who offers an opinion about microphones on this forum, has taken the time to learn about different mics. I started out with an AKG Perception mic then a couple of Behringer and Nady microphones. Since then I have moved on...

    Portable Studio

And my Zoom R16 has finally replaced the Echo Mona. I never thought I'd do that but it's a very impressive piece of gear. The R24, if I remember correctly, is only 16 bit and for that reason alone is not on my list. Other than that, it's a marvelous machine.

My £50 modded mic vs Neumann U87ai for vocals

I've read this from so many members on this particular site and I have to say that it is about the best piece of advice one could give with regards to budget microphones. One track using a low cost mic may sound crisp, bright or sparkling but take the same mic and use it on all of your tracks...

Setting up my homestudio with a new microphone

Blue doesn't make bad mics. Just like Yamaha doesn't make bad anything. They just don't. Nothing wrong with your choice though.

    What Mics Are Used Here?

If you ever get the chance to watch Peter, Paul & Mary on the Knowledge Network, you'll see that they used them extensively with various extensions, brackets and CK5 capsules. I have one swivel and one extension and am resisting buying any more unless I pick up another mic. I couldn't make up...

    What Mics Are Used Here?

I just picked up a 391 last week (AKG SE 300B preamp with a CK91 capsule). I haven't used it yet but a brief sound check with my daughter talking into it was really encouraging. Light, airy and apparently loves me lots. No I meant "AKG 451EB".

Best condenser microphone for under $300

Most mics in that price range will be a tad bright while the AKG Perceptions are all a bit high in the mid range. This could be a good time to try out the Spark.
