Yeah -- a pissing contest could be fun :) How about analog synths vs digital (or am I dating myself...)?
So Colwarter, in an attempt to bring us back to the main topic, you can see that there are lots of opinions on what's an appropriate board for your situation. I would still suggest that...
Just did a very quick search on "gameboy music cartridge" on Yahoo and found a handful of sites. Looks like "nanoloop" and "little sound dj" are the two main music apps for the original gameboy.
Patience dude-- you think this is as busy as the mic board or something?! :D
The "best" organic keyboard is gonna be a highly subjective thing. I have a Fantom X6 to use in my band for the traditional stuff, having come from analog synths in the past, and it suits me well. Others would...
If it has a volume knob (aka potentiometer or "pot"), they don't particularly like to get wet. Since you're saying that it has some output, and that the speaker is behaving with another amp, you may just need to clean out or replace the pot.
Try pulling the knob off and gently blow down the...
Heh heh-- my first "real" synth was a Poly 800. Ah memories...
The seven settings that you're referring to are usually frequency bands, kind of like an equalizer. If you change each of them to an abnormally high setting, you should hear a corresponding change in output. Just like an eq, the...
One could play Baba with an arpeggiator, but I'm not sure what Townsend did on that track. Same thing with Eminence Front-- though I saw a live performance a year or two ago where they played the pattern in that song on what appeared to be a Hammond organ. Used the key percussion and both...
Agree that the "robot voice" stuff may be passe, but you should be able to hack around with a vocoder and different carrier/modulator combos to make interesting textures. The different stuff that Rupert does in The Fixx is pretty cool, imo. More than just vocals-- he's using his voice as a...
Yep-- used 'em live in the past. Worked best with a headset cardioid (Shure SM-10 if I recall correctly). May need a preamp and EQ for your voice to get a hot enough signal.
Depending on the style you're looking for, you'll want to try different sounds for the carrier signal and the voice...
Here's a few
From the additive realm, how about the Kurzweil K150 module and the Kawai K5/5000.
Also remember tweaking the wavetable harmonics for the user waves in a Kawai K3 using an old Atari and having a bit of fun.
Spent many an hour re-reading the brochure for the Octave-Plateau Voyetra...
The Caig DeOxIt stuff works well-- used it for years on mixers, synths, and Italian car electrics. Usually buy mine online from electronic parts supply houses. Most recently got some from www.partsexpress.com for a reasonable price.
If it's just oxidation, this stuff will help. Depending on...
Ultimate Support
Check out http://www.ultimatesupport.com for some ideas. They make an accessory shelf for their stands that'll hold a laptop nicely.
Their stuff can be pricey, but I've used various stands from them since the early '80s without issues.
I picked up a pair of SP-5Bs with the dust caps poked in. Vacuum cleaner worked well, though there is a bit of dimpling on the caps still. Used the "wand" on a big upright vac and placed it against the cap (not just near it). Might be worth trying again, as it's an easy fix.
If that doesn't...
Dunno about "great keyboard amp", as to my mind that's a bit of an oxymoron :) I've found that mono combo amps make useful monitors for stage, but the sound quality through a nice pair of studio monitors (or PC speakers w/sub) has a much nicer quality when playing at home.
That being said...
Dunno what budget you're after, but there are some new entry-level workstations around $1k US now. Being a Roland guy myself, the new Juno-G looks promising.
Alesis, Yamaha, and Korg all have decent romplers with 5-oct keyboards, a smattering of instrument types to get started with, and a...
Haven't tried it myself, but there's been discussion about it at the Fantomized site (http://www.fantomized.info) Plenty of specs and stuff available, and seems similar to my Fantom X6 in many ways, albeit much cheaper!
I have a Roland Fantom X6. Has a wide variety of sounds, with a fair dose of synth stuff. Built in sequencer w/audio tracks is pretty useful for when I need to step in front of the keyboard rig and yell into a mic. :)
You'll find that there are a handful of 61 key "workstation" type boards...
Great drivers! Sold a pair of CV 18s on ebay last year that I used with my band in the past.
Built two single driver cabinets for them back in 1989 that were 24"x24"x30" if I recall correctly. I too ran the TS parms and got a big port volume. Tried plugging in different tube lengths and...
This is a neat thread, and really shows that the combination of decent equipment and a fair amount of skill is what is truly required for a "pro sound". Of course what that sound is-- is a very subjective thing :D
As I'm experimenting with upgrading my vocal rig at this time also, might I...
Don't forget to include non-human sounds-- maybe a hawk or eagle screech, pitch-shifted downward. An old creaky door, or car door that needs oil could help with the attack of the sound. Chop the middle out of a toilet flush, pitch downward, and add a long release for a deep breath/growl sound...
