    Just Walked Away

Typing as I'm listening... Vocals seem a bit distant. I like the panning on the guitars and the tones. Bass is a bit indistinct for my tastes, sounds kind of like a Precision with dead strings, not much attack on the notes. I like the kick sound! Toms sound panned a bit wide. Overall I...

    5 string bass question...

This!!! Even high-end 5 strings exhibit a bit of what you describe. The B string just kind of flaps around. Some of the really good bassists I know have a distinct style that includes a gentler touch on the B except when they specifically want the emphasis.

Tascam Portastudio 464, can I fix it myself?

Not familiar with that particular transport, but my first guess would be rubber drive componenets. Belts, idlers, whatever it uses to transfer the energy from the motor to the capstan.

    Message to you

:laughings: :laughings: :laughings: Awesome description! It was about 3 AM and we used an old Zoom Amp Modeler I had lying around. I recorded a DI track of the unadulterated signal and did some reamping with it tonight... http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=24483

    Electric Drumset recording.

I just plug mine into the interface and record it like audio. Well, technically, it is audio at that point.

Hanging acoustic foam studio tiles without glue

Have you thought about the 3M Command mounting strips? The remove quite easily and don't leave marks. Not sure if they'd hold the foam or not, though.

    Message to you

This one's been driving me nuts! At first it sounded all dark and boxy, so we re-tracked the guitars, replacing the Les Paul with some jangly Fender goodness. Then bass sounded too thin, so I replaced the Fender tracks with an old Gibson EB3. Then it was missing something, so I grabbed the...

"Cadillac Records" movie - 7:10PM - Encore channel

Good movie!! I grew up listening to a stack of Chess and Checker 45s my brother gave me when he went off to Viet Nam. Some of the Chuck Berry 'B' sides were incredible. I was probably the only kid in my school who knew who Little Walter and Willie Dixon were. I remember telling everyone when Led...

    Which monitors are for me?

OK, let's see if I understand. It seems like you just want a set of speakers so you can play around with whatever you record, basically sit back, listen to it and enjoy that which you create. If you're not worried about producing professional results, and initially don't really care what your...

So basically, I guess the control surface functions via MIDI?

    Control Surface?

I don't use MIDI, why is it a pity? Why do you need MIDI in an audio mixer? Well, the project I'm currently mixing has around 40 tracks total, but I generally only tweak 3 or 4 tracks at a time.

How to record lead guitar track separately from the playback track?

It's a matter of assigning the proper input (lead guitar) to a new channel.

    Random recording pattern question

Lately I've been doing drums, scratch guitar and scratch bass at the same time. I put an old Silvertone guitar amp close-miced out in the garage, play bass through my Ampeg's lo-Z out into the board, mic up the drums then we all monitor through headphones with a click track playing.

    Control Surface?

I've been playing around recording at home for the last 10 years or so. Started with a MOTU 2408MKII (still use it and love it) an Alesis Studio 32 mixer (still use it and love it) and Cool Edit Pro (probably the best $400 I spent at the time). I still suck at it, but it's at least a higher...

    Mic stand, filter, etc, help!

I picked up a few of them at Sam Ash a while back. They're OK. One place I play live has a very springy, noisy wooden stage and they help isolate a little bit.
