Behringer ADA8000 as a mic preamp?

Thanks!!! I've had the 2408 for years and years and absolutely love it. The mixer I use (older Alesis Studio 32) is perfect for a couple of 2408s, and still allows me to do OTB mixdown if I want. Used to do that a lot when I first switched from tape, but now pretty much everything is ITB. Now...

Guide to home recording - is it worth buying a book?!

I have The Recording Engineer's Handbook, The Mixing Engineers Handbook and a handful of others. None of them are useless, and they can actually save a lot of trial and error. Reading is good!

    Tascam US-1641 BSOD => can't find device.

Only advice I can offer is to disconnect the device, reboot the PC, uninstall the drivers, reboot the PC again, power cycle the device, reinstall the drivers then reconnect when it asks. Possibly try a different USB port and cable. I have a couple of these and haven't seen this issue. You've...

Behringer ADA8000 as a mic preamp?

Thanks again, Bobbsy! I'm extremely interested in what you may be able to find out, and would be highly appreciative of the effort. A friend just texted that he found a MOTU 2408 MKII at a local pawn shop for a ridiculously low price, I may go check that out in a few minutes. Not usable with...

Behringer ADA8000 as a mic preamp?

Thanks, Bobbsy! I'd read in another thread that it was possible to just loop the ADAT out to the ADAT in to use it as a preamp. It makes sense that it should work, I was wondering if that would introduce latency and if anyone had tried it. I'm on a pretty tight budget right now and just trying...

Behringer ADA8000 as a mic preamp?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an ADA8000 to be able to add 8 channels to my MOTU 2408. I understand the pros and cons of using it in that fashion. Basically I'm only going to use it in situations where someone wants, for example, an insane number of mics on the drums for recording...

Tried to record whole band - crackles and pops GALORE...

Try this: DPC Latency Checker It checks for latency in your system. I've had similar issues in the past due to network cards and such.

    Mic stands?

Need some advice/reviews on mid-priced mic stands. Specifically looking at the On Stage SMS7650 and the Ultimate MC-125, or something else in the below $200 price range. The base needs to be large and heavy enough to be stable with a tube condenser mounted and the boom extended, yet small enough...

    Audition "4.0" Announced

Then maybe I'm just not smart enough to use it. :o

So I was at Sam Ash and the guy ask me if I want to play a Gibson Les Paul

The folks higher up at Gibson will flat tell you that they're not building current Les Pauls to be player's guitars, but rather more as trophies for doctors/lawyers/other people with big bucks...

    Audition "4.0" Announced

As much as I like it, I can't see throwing any more money at Audition unless someone can say the new version has a lot of enhancements. If it's dropped features? Forget it... Since I installed Reaper to save the hassles of moving my Audition license back and forth between desktop for use in the...

Tension problem with reel to reel

I kind of recall those units from repairing them years ago. Haven't seen one in about 25 years, though. IIRC, what you're experiencing can be caused by the felts in the reel tables not gripping well or (unless it's a direct drive model, I don't really remember) bad (hardened) idlers.

Tube AMP problem! Please help me.

EDIT: Ooops, mis-read... Sound like you've isolated it to the preamp section. Try gently tapping the preamp tubes and see fi that has any affect.

    Noisy capstan!

Not what you'll want to hear, but worn capstan/capstan bearing can do the same thing. If the oil doesn't work, you can try removing the capstan, coating it with some heavy grease then reinstalling it, and obviously thoroughly cleaning the part that comes in contact with the tape. If this...

Recorded Songs Burned To CD: Are They Digital Or Audio On The CD??

Digitized silence uses the same number of bits, bytes, frames and words as "audio," but is it still audio?

Recorded Songs Burned To CD: Are They Digital Or Audio On The CD??

LOL!!! VHS is all analog. Each pass across the tape is one scan line on the TV screen. The same vertical helical scan (VHS) technology was use on DATs.

Recorded Songs Burned To CD: Are They Digital Or Audio On The CD??

One of the major differences between format of the digital song on your computer and the same one when you put it on an audio CD is that the CD is exposed to the outside world, and can be easily damaged. As a result, each digital "word" on a CD contains extra data for error correction and...
