    Who's working with video?

Right, I know all that. When I do multi-camera sync I get differences too, but this is drastic, obviously, because the tempo fluctuates. I'm just whining about finding an easier way to do it. ;)

    Who's working with video?

Uhh, sorta... Video Source = Misc VHS, converted to MiniDV Audio Source = CD/Album or new mix from source tracks (seems unnecessary) The point of the project is to put out some kind of live-looking video (since the audio from the VHS tapes SUCK royally) to the audio of the album. It's...

    Have you read the manual?

    Who's working with video?

I have a Canon MiniDV camera (ZR-100) that I purchased for under $300. It's not the best, but it does a nice job and what I need right now. I do all my video work in Final Cut Pro and iMovie (sometimes it's just easier to capture in iMovie). I actually have a question, since we're on the...

    Large Ensemble Mic Placement

I just recorded a variety of choruses last night. The director likes the mics to be placed in the back of the room, to allow the voices to meld with the room. It sounded pretty good but there was quite a bit of audience noise (and people kept bumping into one of my mic stands somehow. 0_o...

    Audio Voice Recording

I don't think you're going to find a good enough mic at any Best Buy location. I doubt they'd carry any USB mics either. They'll probably only have your average shitty stick PC mics. I think you'd have more than sufficient results using a generic dynamic vocal mic with some kind of preamping...

    prebuilt puters?

That someone was kind of an idiot. I know plently of people on this board who run just fine with Celeron processors. The major factor with recording is lots of fast RAM and fast hard drives. Sometimes not even that... My claim to fame for recording is recording 7 tracks live to my 350mhz G4...

    SPDIF Coax cable?

Hello, I just got a Kurzweil PC2R MIDI module, and it has coax SPDIF out, and so I can finally use my Delta's coax SPDIF in. Question is, might I have a cable for this already? I know it's supposed to be 75 ohm RCA, but I don't know if any of my RCA cables ARE 75 ohm. Would it be okay to just...

    Take it down an octave...

Most programs have this feature. It seems you already have found it in Pro Tools. It's possible but it's not going to sound spectacular. Separating regions isn't going to do anything. For best results, retrack it an octave lower. :P

    Background Orchestration..

Sounds like it's simply a reverb. There's either a skill to crafting it or I've just been using sucky verbs for years. (I just use presets!)

    fake track bleed

You may want to simply "reamp" the room. I think that's what you're asking. I actually plan to try this at some point. You'll need to disable direct monitoring, if at all possible (do not allow the mic signal to pass through the montiors/speakers) play the source and just mic "the room". One...

Wat is the bit rate (kbps)??????

It's not just for MP3. It could really be for any kind of encoding format. For example, 128 AAC sounds at least as good as 256 MP3. (to my ears, anyways) They say 96 WMA is about the same as 128 MP3.

Recommend? - same ?, diff criteria

I reccommend either: http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/products.html?Id=1780 Kurzweil PC161 or http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/products.html?Id=282 Kurzweil PC1X (Kurzweil stuff can usually be found a lot less than the list price)

    bleed thru

This is a good question. We're planning on doing one acoustic track for our next album, and I haven't figured out how I want to engineer it yet. Currently we record drum set with scratch guitar & vocals, and then just go from there, but this will be like bongos, acoustic guitars & bass...

How many mics and tracks are you able to work with? (Numbers, please!)

So I've recorded the drums... now what?

Well, I have no idea how to mix drums. I'm only engineering the album, and leaving it up to a pro to mix. I just want to be sure everything sounds as good as possible before I pass it off to the next person. We will most likely be going in for another session, because I'm not satisfied with the...

How much is a DX7 worth these days ?

$300 American used to be a good price for a used DX7.. maybe demand has gone down. I imagine in Canadian it's more worth it.

So I've recorded the drums... now what?

I feel like I'm getting some kind of delay or echo with the hat and the snare. When he gets the hat going it kinda sloshes throught the entire stereo image. Sometimes I think I'm hearing the snare in delay between the different mics too.

    First Drum Session

Well, I have some personal problems with the sound. The hi-hat seems to have an 'echo' on the left side, perhaps from the floor tom/ride mic. In certain places, the snare also seems to have a bit of an echo, as well. I have no idea what's causing this or what I could do about it, except for...
