    Mixing gone wrong

Don't many of these digital recorders have USB connections or removable flash media that you can connect to your computer. That's the best possible route to go.

    Any piano experts available

This is all very interesting. Unfortunately many of the pianos at my college are in terrible condition. Never get any love, or are just cheap to begin with. Many are low-end Kawai pianos, and break down within a year or so. And then there's the evil baby grand Kawai that is used in most...

    Radio compression

Just to add to the curiosity file... When I worked at my college radio station, we used a program for Mac OS X called MegaSeg. Great program for anyone running a radio station, radio webcast, or DJing events, which I think it is primarily designed for. Of course, we also had CDs, but a majority...

The Who..Live at Royal Albert Hall 2000

Well, perhaps it was multitracked, and *gasp* it wasn't overdubbed to hell, like many live albums. When I tried (and failed) to multitrack my band for a live album/dvd, and only ended up with a 2-track of the vocal mics, there was an insane amount of bleed from all the other instruments...

is mastering worth it if you're just gonna burn it to cd-r?

However, don't do as many people do. (Which is to rip the master to MP3s and then burn those) You want to duplicate the master disc or image it in a way to preserve the structure placed by mastering.

How do you mic a leslie speaker ?

I borrowed my accordion player friend's Cordovox Leslie and amp. Quite an interesting thing, but it sounds authentic! Seems to be some kind of weird crossover. (Some?) Bass comes out of the amp while the rest comes out of the Leslie. It also has unusual grill positions for the speakers with no...

the stupidess day of recording (EVER)

I don't think users can delete their own topics, so no. I don't know if I should be amazed that "gangster" or ghetto talk translates online or not. You're not impressing us either way. Personally, when you type like an idiot, that's how we see you, and we're not going to take the topic...

    Piano for $600

Eek, you should have gotten the Kurzweil! It is EASILY 10x better than any of the other keyboards you checked out, and a steal at $400. Here's what you're missing out on: http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/products.html?Id=454

Digital Piano a LONG way off from realism

What I think is suprising that nobody has yet mentioned such things as Native Instruments B4, or Apple Logic instrument models EVB3, EVD6 and EVP88. These are all computer modeled (not sampled) instruments that have been painstakingly created to do what the real thing does. Surely with...

    Leslie simulators

I'm still having a hard time getting the B3 sound right! I've tried NI B4, Nord Electro, whatever the new Hammond is, and the Kurzweil PC2 KB-3 and I'm not sure I like any of them, especially the Leslie effects, which is precisely why I am borrowing my friend's Cordovox Leslie (it's for...

    Anyone got Violin/Viola/Cello Recording Tips?

I've always wondered if multitracking strings will get you a good string ensemble sound... I'd like to know how this turns out. Generally speaking, it is the variation of players and instruments that produces that orchestral strings sound. Having the same player on the same instrument perform it...

To amp or not to amp?

True that. It is a Moog-type sound for sure. I think I will play around with DI and through my brother's smaller Fender amp to see what sits better. I honestly had no idea if the stuff I've been listening to has been amped or not.

    Kurzweil PC1X (just bought..)

I have a PC2R and I'm very impressed with the orchestral ROM. Music123 is pretty reputable though. If you feel you'll need the warranty, go for it.

To amp or not to amp?

Hi all, Situation is this: Song where I'm playing a lead-type synthesizer patch. For that kind of thing, is it more typical to DI out of the keyboard, or mic an amp? (This would require lugging of my huge amp down the stairs. :P) Opinions welcomed. Thanks, Alex

Recording drums through analog ins ?

In that way you possibly can't. I wouldn't recommend it anyways. You'll need a mixer or outboard preamps.

    Keyboard stands

Depends on how big/heavy it is. I have one of the cheap On-Stage trigger stands, 1 braced, and my Kurzweil SP-88 wobbles a bit on it. I plan on getting a double brace soon.

The quest for the portable B-3

I've played it in stores. It kinda confused me. Doesn't completely sound like a B3 but I'll bet that people mucked with it. Probably the best B3 clone I've played. Nord is also very good, but still single manual, and you can't add another manual to it (well, if so, not as easily). I have the...

    Will I eventually need....

You would do a stereo mixdown, saving it in WAVE or AIFF or some other lossless format, and check the mix to be sure it is correct. Then you would open a new file in Cakewalk (or otherwise) for the 2 track stereo file, and import it, and start working! (Figuring out WHAT to do with it is gonna...

Glen, you're totally right! It's just common sense. Be specific.
