I may still slope the ceiling up away from the mix position. That's the best I could short of tearing the whole thing down and starting over.
Hmmmmmmm;)
I've come to the conclusion that trying to compensate for a small mixing environment by learning how to fuck up your mix to make it sound right elsewhere is futile. I had tons of bass trapping in there but it still wasn't enough. I got tired of telling people things like, "Oh ignore the fact...
I use drumagog too. If I know for sure the samples I'm going to use, I'll bounce each track down with just drumagog processing and re-import that track and get rid of the original. I don't include any EQ, Comp or reverb.
Yep doubled and panned. I don't normally pan them like that but it sounded kind of cool on this one. I usually put both up the center and one buried behind the other.
I use the MOPADS on top of stand that I made from sand filled PVC pipe. They work pretty well. They are cheap enough so there is no reason to not use them. Unless you are a cheap bastard.
I'd get the tracks from him if I were you. If you have a less than optimal mixing environment, you may even find someone here to mix it for you. Maybe even for free. Some of the timing type problems with the drums could be hand edited and made acceptable. I've fixed worse. And the vocals...
I guess if that's what you was going for then mission accomplished. Very well I might add. I just would like to hear a bit more of the stuff you have buried in the back is all. Not all the way through either. Maybe just when there are no vocals.
Do you wipe their ass for them as well. :D Screw all that shit. No negative comments my ass. If they are sucking and I know they can do better, I tell them exactly that. Everyone who comes to me knows this up front. I am not going to lie to them to help their feelings. If they don't...
The intro is great. Everything goes downhill when it kicks in though. The drums are way back in a hole. Bass guitar is mud. There appears to be some pumping compression going on too.

listening again. I actually like the song. It's just when it kicks in it does just the opposite...
I'd get some of the rhythm instruments up in the mix a bit. That is unless is supposed to be drums bass and vocals all the way through. I know I heard some piano in there. That should weave in and out through the song. So should some rhythm guitar. It just seems kind of dead to me. Good...
Kick drum sounds like someone farting in a cardboard box :D I like that guitar tone in the beginning. It's too bad it gets shit on as soon as the bass guitar and drums come in. I think the rest of the instruments should kick in way before the 1:30 mark.
