I have an Ibanez RG1570 with the original pickups (a Vintage 8 in the bridge, Single 1 in the middle and Vintage 7 in the neck). I play metal with this guitar and want an aggressive tone, but the stock pickups are just "too hot" for me. When I use a high gain amp sim or my MXR Fullbore Metal...
I acquired an Alesis Quadraverb as part of a "package" of rack equipment not long ago and I've been trying to figure out how to use it ever since. I'd like to plug it into the FX loop of my guitar amp and use it for reverb and/or delay, but when I try that I get some terrible feedback and the...
I asked this question in another forum and the overwhelming response was to go with the Slate plugins. They are offering a "monthly plan" now where for $20/month you get unlimited access to all of their plugins. It's a nice way to try out everything they make and you can suspend your account...
Not long ago I acquired a rack full of gear from a friend of a co-worker who was moving. I paid $250 for all of it and there's a couple of useful things in the bundle, but a couple seem to be a waste of space/money.
#1 is a dbx 266XL compressor. I finally got it wired up to work with my...
Sorry I can't help with an answer, but I'm in almost the same boat. Been thinking about moving toward outboard gear for a while now. I'll be watching for responses to your post. Thanks for asking!
I have been planning to build a recording desk in the next few weeks. I love these designs. I want something more like the "expensive" one with the racks on each side.
Thanks for posting!
Sorry to the OP if this takes things off topic, but I think it might be a "trick" they can use too...how did you lead the song into Reaper? Just as an MP3 (or something similar)?
I agree. I love this song. What you've been able to achieve here is awesome.
I think you're going down the right path with upgrading the guitar first. The interface doesn't sound like it's the bottleneck to better recordings at this point. For what it's worth though, I upgraded from an...
1. I have KRK Rokkit 5's and they work pretty well for me. There are a lot of threads on here about this exact question though.
2. I use the Presonus HD7 semi-closed back headphones for tracking and to do some listening while mixing. They work great and are pretty affordable.
I agree. GarageBand on iOS works pretty well though and has some really nice options for virtual instruments. They even have a way you can have them play a pre-recorded loop and change it up between a few variations. The drum machine is awesome for playing with random beats. It's a neat toy...
Good advice from the others in this thread as always, but something keeps popping out at me from your original post. I have two questions:
1. Are you going to record electric guitar or acoustic? (sorry if I missed that somewhere)
2. Would you rather just record on an iPad and forget the laptop...
The pads on the Beatstep are awesome. Super sensitive and responsive. I understand wanting an all-in-one unit though.
M-Audio makes one too, but I don't know if it's any good. I have an old MPD16 and the pads suck. Have to really hit hard to get them to register...which is why I bought the...
I have an Arturia Beatstep which is a really cool little controller with 16 pads. It's $99 too. I also have an Akai LPK25, but I like to tap the pads better than hit keys. The Beatstep has velocity sensitive pads and, as an added bonus, has a step sequencer built in. I thought that would be...
Pretty sure you'll be fine. Check out the stats of my Macbook in my sig. I just "upgraded" to a used 2010 Mac Mini, but I've used that laptop for quite a few recording projects and it's been fine for me. Only has 4GB of RAM in it too,
Love the song. I agree with Matt's comment to some extent, I think the kick can be dialed down just a bit to make more room for the guitars. Of course this could be personal preference.
