Hello all. I've been away from the forums (and recording) for a few months due to being busy with other things, but I've recently started another project and I've been re-energized.
A co-worker of mine has a friend moving out of state who was looking to sell some gear that he used in a DJ rig...
I'm sorry if I misspoke or spoke out of turn. I was just sharing my experience and what I've read from others on the Internet. I don't have any experience with the 2i2, but I do have an Audiobox USB and I experienced the issues stated above.
I'm sorry, I don't understand a lot of what you...
Thanks guys. I've heard about the "tap the tubes" thing before, I'll give that a try. I think it might be worth it to just take it to my local store and have them look at it if that doesn't prove anything conclusive.
The Focusrite 2i2 doesn't have a "pad" button for instrument inputs so it can record guitars too "hot". Especially if you have active pickups or very hot passives. The Audiobox USB also does not have the ability to pad the inputs. I would recommend an interface with instrument level inputs...
Ask anyone who recorded/produced Metallica before 2002? There might be a difference in musicianship there though I'm sure some people would argue that. :p
About a year ago I bought a tube amp from a local music store. This is the first tube amp I've ever owned as I've always had solid state practice amps. The other day I put the amp on an amp stand (I play at very low volumes and it helps if I angle the amp towards me). I noticed that the amps...
Thanks guys. I didn't think it was a problem leaving them out, but I was curious. There aren't wild swings in humidity in my basement (in fact it's the most consistent part of the house for temp and humidity) so I think I'm ok. I will pick up a couple of hydrometers to make sure though...
I've been debating over the best way to store my guitars. I have 7 electrics and 1 acoustic guitar and I have been storing them on a rack like this one (but not this exact one).
I often have a few minutes to a couple of hours to pick up a guitar and play so I like them being out of the cases...
Would these be a decent 2nd set of monitors for reference? I have Rokit 5's as my main monitors now. Also how would I connect them to my US-1800? I don't have RCA connectors and only 1 monitor out (which is 1/4").
I tried to do it off packaging weight on the web using USPS website, but it said $45 which seemed high. I'm not sure I have a place for them anyway just yet.
I replied in the other thread with this, but here it is again (just in case you read this first). I think Reason Essentials is a "lite" version of Reason: https://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&article=comparison-chart
As for mixing and mastering that's...
I don't want to steal Broken_H's thunder here, but I think Reason Essentials is just a "lite" version of Reason. Check out this comparison chart from their website: https://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&article=comparison-chart
As you said it's a matter of personal preference and I think you're going to get a bunch of different answers, but I'm a recording newbie and I use Presonus Studio One almost exclusively. I've tried Cubase LE (it came with my audio interface) and I used Reaper before that, but Studio One is...
These are what we're talking about when we say "DI boxes". There are a bunch in a wide range of prices. I can't recommend one because I've never used one, but maybe someone else can comment on a good one for you.

As for the monitoring question, which DAW are you...
I'm using already mixed drums from EZDrummer for this so I didn't want to mess with them too much. I thought I would have to add compression and EQ to a live kit if I recorded it, but not so much to something like EZDrummer (and I realize EZD can sound like a robot, but it's what I've got and I...
