    Rummage Sale Find

Another forum I visit occasionally - a woodworking forum - also encourages "gloats." However, the unwritten rule is it's not official until you post a picture. So lets see this bad boy!

Please give me some treatment ideas.......pretty please

[Mind you I can't see your original drawing, cuz my office blocks whatever picture host you used - probably photobucket?] This is just how I would prioritize: Just do as much as you can afford, and do it as symetrically as possible. Start with bass traps in at least 2 corners (not 2 corners...

    Lurker wanting advice

By over-organizing this, the other guys are gonna think you are trying to take over the band, or at least define yourself as "leader" right off the bat. While that may be true, it's best to slowly let that role develop, so they aren't taken aback by it. Stick to the beer, pizza, and jamming...

    Shure SM57

If this was already mentioned, sorry, but make sure if you go the MSH-1 route, you get an audio interface that has phantom power (or get a seperate unit). The MSH is a condensor mic, and therefore requires phantom power to work.

    My new bass traps

Looks good, except you might want to use more staples and some nice neat hospital corners.

    Somewhere Behind Your Eyes

Just throwing my two cents in. I agree that the vox are a bit too loud. Throughout. Although after the fiddley, whistley little break they sound better - maybe there is more or louder instruments going on, bringing the level of the music and vox closer together. maybe.

    can i post this here

Oh yeah. I had thought the sunrays were kaput, but then shit, who knows. I can't keep track of the status of my own band. Yeah, anyway, I'd optimistically say we are about 1/2 way through recording the next CD. Probably be another 6 months or so, though. We only get together a few hours a...

    Shure SM57

He said he would use an adapter to plug the 1/4" into his soundcard. That aside, cuse is right - you need a better soundcard (aka audio interface). Otherwise you will not get results anything close to good.

Hey Rats, Real nice. Right up my alley. I can't wait for Part II (I mean you gotta put something on the other side of the record, right?) If Orange Robot EVER gets a drummer again, and we EVER get done with our current recording project, we really should do another show together.

Moving a mix to another program?

I would think to give just a bunch of wavs, you would need to add silence here and there, so that all the files start at the same exact point in time. I.e. if the guitar solo wav starts at 3:09, you would need to add 3:09 of silence to the beginning of that wav. Otherwise the recipients of...

How Do You Store Your Mics?

I try to keep my mics in their little zipper pouches. If I'm planning to use a mic for a few days, or even a few weeks, I'll leave it in the stand. If I remember (a rarity), I'll hang the zipper pouch over the mic in the stand between uses, just to keep the dust out. In other words, I'm...

    Micing Techniques

I use an SM57 about an inch or 2 from the edge of the speaker, angled slightly away from the center of the speaker. If it's a quieter part, the mic will be about 1-2 inches from the grill clothe. If it's louder, I might back the mic off about 6-8 inches. Not particularly exciting or...

    Adobe Audition 2.0

It can't do straight 24 bit recording (only 16 or 32). That, and the lack of MIDI are the two biggests bummers (in my opinion, as I have experienced, only as far as I am concerned, etc.) Go with Reaper.

    Troller turned submitter...

That should work. I have no experience with any drum software, but that should do the trick. OR you could just find the exact prob frequency and cut that a bit too (experiment with various Qs). Anyway, thats al just based on my taste. If you (or your audience/listeners) like it, than leave it.

    Troller turned submitter...

I'm listening again. The kick is really the only thing bugging me at this point. I'd maybe calm it down a bit for the verses. Instead of straight 8th notes - 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & - maybe just a 1 (2) & 3. Would give it a bit more grove, and less of a driving rock feel. Personally I think that...
