    Simple Question about this forum

The owner of the site has been experimenting with different rep systems. The nuts and bolts of it are that if you like someone's comments, click on the little scales in the upper right hand corner of their post. You can add positive rep. Up until recently, you could do the same thing to add...

    FP 10 and this card????

That should do the trick just fine. Order it! You need to start playing with the FP!

    Question about phase reversal...

I think I liked this thread yesterday better when everyone was hugging and appologizing and buying each other beers... this recent mathy twist is freaking me out.

Stuck in a rutt (proper recording procedure?)

If you are likely to do that anyway, why not just run the guitar direct (and bass, and other guitar, etc.)? Then you won't have any bleed into the drum OH. Your drummer can wear headphones. I know he can. I have confidence in him. You should to. It's often just a matter of getting the...

Hooking up an external mixing board to my 4 track cassette

This is a situation where you turn 8 of those 14 mics off completely and tell the drummer how great it sounds because of all the mics.

    Firewire Connections?

Just chiming in to support what has already been said: 1. Avoid combo cards. 2. Go with a TI chipset. I think I got mine from TigerDirect, and it was $15 or $20. Still much better than $40+ but worth the extra few bucks over the ebay one to know it should work well.

Stuck in a rutt (proper recording procedure?)

Use a click track anyway, and just record a scratch guitar track to it (and maybe vocals). Don't worry about tone. Heck, go direct - just focus on good timing relative to the click. Hopefully your drummer can play along to the guitar, and it will provide something to count along to during the...

    A little bluegrass Cat Stevens

I've been on a bit of a Cat Stevens kick lately, so I was interested in your take on this. I like it. I'm not sure I'd call it Bluegrass, though. It does have banjo, but seems to be lacking something - maybe needs a more traditional 3 part vocal harmony. It's good the way it is, just not...

    The Dream is Over...new mix

I agree with that, although might not have picked up on it without having it suggested by Vman. Anyway, no constructive criticism for you. I just wanted to check in and say that I really like it. That is all.

New to music theory, but not to music... advice?

I have that book. It's not too shabby. I must admit I only ever made it about 1/3 of the way through it, but I would say if you force yourself to complete the "course" (set aside an hour every day or two to work on the stuff), you will have a very good foundation for theory. Also, depending...

USB flash drive for laptop audio?

I currently use an external harddrive (can connect via FW or USB) and a Firepod (FW). I use them both regularly with no problems. At my bassists house I used to use the USB for the harddrive (because he only has 1 FW port, which the firepod would plug into) and things were choppy. I then...

    Amp Risers

FWIW, I have the onstage amp stand and really like it. It's much sturdier than it looks in the online picture. I really like the raised height, and the angle. Much easier to tweak, and it actually points towards my ears, so I know what sound it's making.

Van Halen "I'll wait" drum toms

If you are trying your hand at Walterspeak, I suggest you end a few of your questions with a period, and end a few statements with a question mark. Otherwise, your word choice is pretty good. Keep at it.

Complete recording amateur needs serious help

I'll just touch on one aspect. Get some headphones. Listen to your backing track on those whist you rap. That way your mic doesn't pick up the sound of your speakers, only your voice. Otherwise, get a real mic, and consider getting a real audio interface, and you will have made a huge stride.
