Yes, Rick became a jerk in the end...

What a fucking asshole you are to pile on a guy about his health problems - cancer, no less. You may be 44 years old or whatever, but you apparently have a long way to go in learning about tact and respect. You should be ashamed of yourself. Oh and one other thing - there is never any...

    bravo ethan winer...

Agreed. It's a pretty shitty thing to say.

    bravo ethan winer...

Dude has every right to not like something, regarless of his own resume. Even though I'm sure he could skate circles around me, I hated the way Robert Lang played hockey when he was with the Wings... same thing... sort of....

    Recommend Entry Level Monitors

Despite the bad name, I do quite like my Behringer Truths. They have a big enough woofer to actually hear the bass. I was never happy with any of the smaller monitors I tested.

Bluegrass stuff...be critical and help me please.

Wow, this has become quite the rollercoaster thread. I honestly thought it sounded pretty darned good. I guess if dude ONLY had his sights set on "making it" then anything short is a let down. It just makes me happy that I can be content making music for myself, regardless of how shitty it...

Do you sometimes jones to play your guitar?

Spin Doctor is either yanking everyone's chain, or is WAAAAY over-sensitive. By the way, Spin Doctor, I believe "Afro-American" is considered inappropriate, and fell out of common usage about 30 years ago. If you are gonna police racial terms here, start with yourself.

ANOTHER Homestudio DIY Project for Alesis SR16 (or similar sized unit)

That's nice. The 2nd biggest bummer about the SR16 is the fact that you can't read the display unless you are looking at the exact right angle. (The #1 biggest bummer is the shitty sounds, of course).

Different guage strings on the same guitar

GHS sells CL's (Custom Lights) which are exactly that (I think). I like them.

Bluegrass stuff...be critical and help me please.

Based on Harvey's comments, I was expecting a much busier arrangement. I, personally, didn't think it was too bad. Your voice is really good. *jealous* Welcome to the forum. Stick around. I'll look forward to hearing more from you.

This whole album was done with Audition 1.5

Hey bud. Any place to just stream or DL a song or two? (other than myspace). I might not like it enough to want to give you my email address and wait for a big DL. :)

How to set up drums for recording

Yes, as others have said, each mic will pick up everything. But it will be at widely varying levels. Your kick mic, for instance isn't likely to pick up much of your ride cymbal... Also as has been mentioned, be sure to get what you think is a good drum sound with JUST the 2 overheads (hint -...

No Phase reverse... what do i do?

I have one that I made and it's 1' long. I just add it to a regular cable when needed. It'd be pretty hard to mistake it for anything else. That said, it's still labeled...:)

How to set up drums for recording

foir budget overheads, consider the MSH mics, sold at naiant.com. Owner of the site/mic maker is a member here, and everyones been quite pleased with his mics (myself included). Then, I'd suggest the recorderman technique. Basically this technique ensures minimal phase issues with your...

    lap steel noob

[putting the steel talk aside for a sec] So, as someone in the same boat, do you struggle with picking a bit, or am I in fact leaning on that as an excuse. I find certain finger picking patterns are fine, others start out fine and I get "tight" half way through the song - The boxer (simon and...

    lap steel noob

Excellent! That's just the sorta thing I'm looking for! (although...what do you mean by A and B sections?) rolls freak me out. I'm a lefty that plays righty, and I have a hard time getting my picking fingers to move fluidly. I know....practice, practice, practice...I just contend that...

    lap steel noob

That's a good point. I don't have much of a point of reference. If anyone else has any recommendations of who to listen to, let me know. Thanks, GG.

    dirty Flute-sound

I am only familiar with cheap "Renaissance flutes" - basically a piece of bamboo or similar with holes drilled in it. But since they are diatonic, you can't reach certain notes with out "bending." On that type of flute, it's achieved by half covering a particular hole with your finger. (which...

    lap steel noob

Thanks a ton, gents. That's some good help, for sure. Particularly, the folkofthewood link looks good. I had looked for something like that, but didn't have much luck. Thanks, doc!

    lap steel noob

yep, that's me. I bought a little nut extension thingy from stewmac, and I got a real steel bar (as opposed to the hollow slide that fits on your finger). I tuned to open G. (Acoustic, by the way). Now what? I find that I'm having a hard time coming up with anything interesting. I really...
