(should be simple, anyway....)
Is turning every track down in a song session 1 db, the same as turning the master down 1 db?
Logarithmics cornfuse me....
You need an Audio Interface. There are many from probably $20 or $30 and up. Some connect via USB, some Firewire, some PCI. the Audio Interface is basically a music-quality external soundcard, that will replace your stock soundcard. Most have XLR jacks, and can provide phnatom power. The...
Right on. Some of the more experienced folks seem to imply newbies can either (a) learn stuff or (b) buy stuff or (c) record stuff, but that they somehow can't do all three things at once. In reality everyone on every level does all three all the time.
Anyway, if you are happy with your gear...
There's definitely a vintage sabbath feel to it. I wonder if you really tried to belt out your vocals - pushing a little more air, if it wouldn't sound a little better. I guess maybe I'm suggesting the opposite of the spoken word approach. Just let er rip with all the gusto you can muster...
I don't understand 95% of this technical stuff, but I can recognize tact and appreciate real-world audio examples. Based on those two things, I know who wins this debate in my mind.
I'd suggest getting a decent sized pair of stereo speakers to use as your "monitors." Check a thrift store - for $20 you can probably get some speakers and a tuner with an amp built in to power them. As long as they have some sort of line-in jack, you should be good to go. Much better than...
If it's just a few hits, cut and paste a better hit over them. Depending on how much kick is in your OH's you may need to cut and paste there too...which may or may not work, depending on the amount of other stuff (cymbals) going on in the OH track(s). If that's the case, maybe a combo of kick...
Wow this thread is really lame. I can't believe the hostility. While I have no experience in this, I can't see how anyone could be so completely offended by the notion that a piece of software could help expedite the learning time for a particular skill set. People use all sorts of tools to...
I have several 4'x2' 703 panels in my basement studio. Still, considering that I could use more treatment, is this worth considering? Good price? Could I potentially use it for other stuff too maybe - amp enclosure, etc.? It's about a 2 hour round trip drive for me too, so the gas would cost...
Very basic suggestion, and one you've probably already tried, but what about just not panning them as much. 20 or 30% each way instead of 50 or 100%? Might help them blend a bit better, yet still give some seperation.
You are right, of course. MY comment "bass isn't that hard" meant basically that with a very little bit of practice and thought, the bass line in this song could sound like a bass line, instead of random low frequency meandings.
Unfortunately, I agree.
The positives:
The guitar and vocals sound pretty good, when they aren't clipping, or being played/sung incorrectly.
Practice dude. Bass isn't that hard...

Very good for the price (free). It's a bit imperfect, but the imperfections are minor - the title on your pdf may run off the side of the page, etc. These things may even be fixed in the recent version; I haven't looked for an update in a long time...
You think you need to start set up at 5 to pull this off? Then start at Noon.
And make sure EVERYONE knows their parts and the game plan in advance - the more details the better - what/when are you gonna eat? How sloppy drunk are you gonna get, etc. Maybe a few levels of goals.
