not sure how to title this!

That's all true, but it may still be the one thing that makes the most sense to not DIY. Fresh ears, new and better listening environment, better gear, and all that.

Yeah. Another one of those mixdown inquiries.

something like this maybe. Never used it, never heard anything about it. Just found it with a quick search. Probably it's about as cheap as you're gonna find, though. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--IONURECORD For around $100, there are several 2 track USB or FW audio interfaces...

Tascam 424 mkII recording 1st track twice(im dumb, help)

Yep, for what it's worth, I used the direct method for years. It is clearly the more intuitive way to record. 1 goes to 1, etc. However, I kept hearing over and over about the buss method, and finally tried it. It was somewhat of an epiphany. You no longer have to unplug/replug to record...

Tascam 424 mkII recording 1st track twice(im dumb, help)

Make sure your heads are clean and you are using decent quality tapes, and that you are not recording too loud. Not sure that any of that will help, but you should do it anyway. Next step: try the pan/bus recording method and see if you have the same problem. Dumb question, but are your...

    Tascam Portastudio 424 + Computer

I think I might be repeating what's already been said, but if you're bent on doing this, I'd suggest splitting one of the tracks (maybe a percussion track) and sending one to the comp and one to the tascam. Then you have a reference for time aligning. Ultimately, you may discard one of the...

" Mi Tierra" Original Backing Track

This sounds really nice. I really like the sorta subtle tremelo on the ld git. and I'm always a sucker for triangle. Wait! That's it? d'oh! Too short! What exactly do you mean by "backing track," anyway?

    How about this mix?

I don't wanna sound too negative, but I assume you posted looking for constructive criticism, so here goes: Something's going on with this mix that I can't quite put my finger on. It sounds like back in the day when I recorded something on my portastudio with DBX on, then tried to play it...

    NEW Album Mixing

I took basically the exact same approach with a recently completed CD. My .02: start mixing sooner rather than later. At the very least, start doing the basic editing (cut and paste kinda stuff, comping tracks), low cut eqs, phase flips, track alignment, and any fx you can add...

    Loudness War Project

If it was all so easy, it wouldn't be half as fun. Learning and trying new stuff is half the fun of this hobby.

    Anyone wanna try mastering?

I'll just post a quick update here for anyone who wants to try this: I had band practice/mix/meeting last night. We still have a few final tweaks to make. Might be done tonight with any luck. At that point, I'll PM anyone here who was interested, and we'll figure out how to get the files to...

    Anyone wanna try mastering?

The word is MSHilarious is one of the coolest mofos on the planet. He's agreed to help us out. edit: That said, if you are looking for something to tinker with, I'm more than happy to let you have a crack at it.

    Peak with condenser mics

Do channels 3 and 4 sound OK, or do they seem to be peaking/distorting? Maybe just the light is the problem. You can remedy this the same way I fix my car when the engine light comes on - place a little piece of black electrical tape over the light.

    Anyone wanna try mastering?

I posted the following at the other place and got some response, but thought I'd try here too. My band is closing in on completion of our third CD. Since we've long since lost any hope or interest in "making it big" or getting rich off our music, we've decided that any proceeds we might make...

    What do you Imagine?

Geez, folks lighten up. This isn't "making fun" of lennon. It's using his song as a platform for silliness. BFD. Regarding the song itself: I think it sounds pretty good, but I think, as a parody/joke song, the vocals need to be louder. There should be no struggling to make out the...
