Do bands notate their songs using composition software?

I've started slowly tabbing out my guitar parts in powertab. My brain doesn't do well at remembering how to play things that I maybe wrote several years ago, and haven't played much since. So, for new songs, I've been trying to do this, so hopefully, a few years from now I can quickly relearn...

    424 MKII cassette door.?

I'm fairly certain the door on the mkii is completely unnecesarry. Tapes are inserted and removed by hand, not by a door-action, right? I'd just remove it altogether, or leave it open all the time. Most of the time, I just let the tape roll with the door wide open. I don't leave tapes in...

    Panning help

Yes. If it's only a rhythm part, I'd suggest double tracking (recording two entirely seperate takes of the same part, recorded as closed to identically as possible) and panning opposite one another fairly significantly (50-100%). Start there, and adjust to taste. Double tracked distorted...

    Panning help

That's MISTER Smar....oh....right. Anyway, since I'm avoiding work at all costs today, I'll elaborate: Your question has no answer. In fact, I'm not even sure it's a question. What are you panning? how is it you expect to pan something to make it better? What are you recording? How many...

Angsty rock song - Yertle's View

One of my favorite Seuss books (2nd only to "If I Ran the Circus")! Cool tune. I don't agree with the guitars being buried by the vox. I think if anything, it's the other way around (with regards to the lead guitar - upon 2nd listen, I hear there is a rhythm pretty darn low in the mix)...

    Your best advanced mixing techniques

NY Compression http://benvesco.com/tonemonster/mixing/phat-drums-new-york-style-parallel-compression-part-1/ regarding the rental property: You can still do a lot of non-destructive (or non-constructive?) improvement pretty simply. Build several free standing broadband absorbers, and bass...

    Your best advanced mixing techniques

I think one of the biggest difference between home recordings and bone fide studio recordings is acoustically nice, and very quiet recording spaces (no hum, fan noise, traffic rumble, etc.) Hmm...but that doesn't really answer your question. Things I like (that may or may not apply to others)...

    tascam portastudio 424 help!

That was my guess as well - based on the descriptor "scratchy". Get some TV tuner cleaner (radioshack), and clean all the pots as best you can. Use a rubber band or shoelace or something, to turn them back and forth several times rapidly to work the cleaner in and break up any gunk in them...

    new band name?

Go with Rabbit Transit, for sure. It's the best one, and a cool one to boot. Reminds me of nothing else, is easy to remember, spell, conjurs up a particular image (varying depending on the person, of course), could be easy to logo-ify. Yep. thats the one, trust me. -Andy (Orange Robot)

    new band name?

I much pefer poorly drawn birds, fwiw. Although it does remind me of Badly Drawn Boy. Interestingly, there's a band around these parts called Bear vs. Shark. Ya just can't win!

large diaphragm condensers as cymbal mic's.

What about the decay tails on the cymbals that are contemporaneous with the toms? It seems you might have to resort to some unnatural cuts and fades. Maybe since it's a doubled track that gets sorta buried enough that it's a not issue? (I just wanted to use "contemporaneous.")
