    Queen Sound

Maybe no help with sustain, but on the VH1 classic album show for "night at the opera", brian may mentions how his 2 pickups are wired out of phase with each other which helps create that feedbacky crunchy squelch.

HomeRec Collab! Freudian, Gorty, & Greg - Strutter!

Cool. At least my ears aren't misleading me. Like I said, I do kinda like it, it's just foriegn sounding. And I guess that's why I like it. So kudos!

HomeRec Collab! Freudian, Gorty, & Greg - Strutter!

After my second listen I think it's just the two different rhythms that pull the guitar sound from one side to the other, depending on who's hitting their chord at a particular time. It didn't feel like two rhythms, as much as one rhythm moving back and forth. But that's just on my poorly...

HomeRec Collab! Freudian, Gorty, & Greg - Strutter!

I think this sounds awesome - great lead git playing. Great vocals, awesome backing vox. My only little beef is this (and mind you, this is WAY better than anything I could come up with): with the two rhythm guitars panned opposite, the rhythm guitar seems to swim pretty randomly across the...

    Mix Critique

Smoove! Makes me wanna put on a flowy tie-dye linen dress and spin in circles. Sorry, I know that wasn't very useful info, but on my crappy comp speakers, that's the best I can offer. Anyway, I like it. I'd really like to hear it with the ld. git and vox. So get on it!

Recording drums on a 4 track. Best option?

I'm not familiar specifically with the portaone, but can't you just route the 4 inputs to your destination track, i.e. use the porta as your mixer, recording 4 channels to only to one or two tracks? That is definately possible on the 424 series.

Starting From scratch - No Idea - Very Keen

just to be clear, the firepod most certainly does have 8 pres. And its a pretty groovy unit. This hobby can be a real money pit to get started into, but you will reach a comfortable plateau at some point. A firepod is a good start, and you won't find yourself wanting to replace it for quite...

    Talking 'bout....

Ha! That's one of my favorite typos! I love it! Regarding the song. Sounds real good to me - catchy fun song! I think the lead vocals could be a tad louder, maybe?

Starting From scratch - No Idea - Very Keen

Well, then I'd say your options are to find the cheapest stereo interface you can get and the cheapest mixer you can find. The downside with that is to record drums, for instance, you will have to mix all your drum mics perfectly before/during tracking because they will be summed to a stereo...

Starting From scratch - No Idea - Very Keen

If you can afford this, or something like it, get it. You would be able to record up to 8 mic tracks simultaneously (maybe less if your computer bogs down) as it has 8 built in preamps and you would definitely not need a mixer at all. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--PRSFIREPOD I...

    Recording Drums

I've struggled with getting a good snare sound, and I've found a bottom mic helps, because you can mix the 'thwud" of the top mic with the sizzle of the bottom. Very recently, I tried a side mic on the shell, and got a nice traditional sound. Might not be good for heavy hitting metal, etc...

This has been bugging me for years!

Get over it. Christ, he even pointed you towards a cheap servicable solution to your problem. Just cuz he didn't sit down and have tea with you is no reason to get all pissy. Did you come here for advice or for a love-in?

GREAT way to get fat drums, fast, with 3 mics...

Yeah, it seems the 2 drum sticks is a little on the short side. When I'm recording a drummer, it's definately closer to 3, or the drummer gets paranoid about the mic learing over his right shoulder and starts to whack at it with a stick. Damn dirty apes.....
