    Scotch 207

Nope. I may be dumb, but I know shiny from dull. Thanks, though.

    Scotch 207

Short and sweet...got a roll of Scotch 207, my TEAC 2340 won't record more than a ghost of a track on it, no matter how high I set the bias, etc. How much juice do I have to use to get this stuff to print? I don't have much of this stuff, and I'm just using it to play with, all my serious stuff...

    Need a guitar recommendation..

Go Canadian...and learn to set them up yourself. A lot of the Canadian stuff from LaPatrie is designed for Paul Bunyan's finger strength, but can be made to be playable for normal humans with a little adjustment, and the tone is consistantly good, at least imo. Hope this is of use to you.

What supplies do you need the most?

I've been using my six screw flanges on three screw hubs that come with pancakes...but I don't like it, so I roll them onto six screw hubs and flanges afterwards. Hey, BTW, splicit..do you guys take paypal? I need some 1/4" red leader and some 911 when you can.. EDIT:yes, you take paypal..I'm...

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

That Mackie simulator on the sonic finger site is just what I've been looking for.."When the best is too good," indeed. +1

    would this work?

The two-bucks-and-a-single is a time-honored mod, but I've personally never liked this setup. You wind up with issues due to increased magnetic drag on the strings, called strat-itis by some. Plus, the middle single is difficult to place properly, and gets drowned out by the humbuckers if used...

Large-Diaphragm Condenser Mic's for Recording (Neumann U87 clones)

"smooth, rich and warm"...sounds like a laxative commercial. I wonder what the next adjective for chinese knock-off will be, perhaps you'll see an ad saying that they have that caucasian sound.

    Cassette Decks

"Thus, I'd suppose a high end DVD player with really good ADCs would blow a consumer level cassette deck out of the water." Cassette deck...maybe. Reel-to-reel running at 7 1/2...not a chance. It may sound insane, but I don't buy any music that isn't in rtr format anymore. I just can't listen...

    C'mon what's wrong with me?!?!?!

I don't want to offend you, but if you get some more unique samples, this would sound worlds better. The drums in particular need some juice, IMO. You don't have to spend megabucks, either. An afternoon with a good drummer in a decent studio will give you more than you could use in a decade. And...

    Pink Floyd vocals

That entirely depends on what you mean by, "a lot." Best not to ask this question unless you are ready for a whole heapin' mess of opinions to descend upon this thread like the falling fetuses in "Eraserhead." Having said that, if you like how it sounds, it's good enough. Hope this is helpful.

    Pink Floyd vocals

Floyd was famous for use of the Binson Echorec early on, kind of like a tape delay except that it used a spinning metal disc instead of tape. Wall-era floyd was somewhat more technically advanced, what with Bob Ezrin hanging about, and probably used a combination of doubling and quality plate...

    World's largest contact lens store

Few people realize the value of contact lenses in a recording mileu. If large enough, they make a fine snare head replacement in a pinch.

guits bleed through vocal mic...& other.

How do you know that, Trey? What do you base your assumption on? Have you tried this, in this situation? I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but I'd like to know what the drawbacks to this technique are.

guits bleed through vocal mic...& other.

I don't know if this will help you, but it can't hurt. Back in the late 70s, the Dead used a system of noise cancelling microphones. Basically, you use two of the exact same mics, taped together. You put the sound source only into the top one, and run them to the board 180 degrees out of phase...

Thinking about a Taylor or other High-End Acoustic

I still lose sleep nightly after selling my old Norman b-50. You'll have to build up hand muscles to play the thing, and it's so loud that you'll need to play outside, but the tone is great for recording, or anything else. The maple back and sides are not laminates like other Canadian models...

    Little Feat production and engineering

Thanks for the rec...I'm sure you are right about recording to tape, and probably a wider format than the one I am using. I've listened to the first two Mahavishnu Orchestra albums w/ Cobham, and they are very impressive indeed. I'll be listening to this one next.

Nice try, you stinkin' lying sob(s)!

If Digidesign were to tell you exactly what their new bit of sleight-of-hand does, it would be the equivalent of the Emperor showing off his new clothes. I am willing to bet that their tape simulation is no more than a fancy eq, perhaps with a compression algorithm and a warble effect. Thus...
