I would guess that it is far more important to have Sir George at the helm, with Geoff Emerick working the knobs, than to use the same equipment. Not to mention having Beatles doing the instrumental and vocal work.
Really, the gear used at that time was good, but the stuff we have access to...

If you really love the songs, though, 7.5 ips r2r four tracks offer terrific sound. Far better than CDs or even most vinyl, IMO. I use a TEAC 2340 into powered monitors to listen to a slowly growing collection of tapes, and everyone I play this setup for agrees that the quality is fantastic.
OK, a humbucker is a dual coil pickup, basically two single coils next to each other wound in opposite polarity. This setup cancels hum, and picks up a wider area of the string's vibration as well, thus accounting for it's different sound.
Soapbars predate the humbucker, they're just a powerful...
I think I know what you're experiencing...I've got both a 2340 and a 3340 that I use regularly, and both had this problem when I first acquired them. After a few times of manually moving the rubber wheel into place, the mechanism loosens up a little and they work fine. I have heard that some...
All I can mention is the insanely brilliant Django Reinhardt. Three usable fingers on his left hand, including the thumb. Outplayed virtually everyone, impressed Segovia, looked really cool doing it.
Does it do this on all mic inputs? Check jacks first, they take the most abuse. Clean thoroughly, carefully with deoxidization spray. Make sure you are using a good cord and mic, too.
If that isn't it, you need good skills, good friends, or a good repair shop. Hope this helps.
Well, I was genericising the whole thing to apply to any mixer, effects send to effect return, aux send and return, basically just send the signal to the reverb then bring it back into the board with a pot. Simple stuff, but the nomenclature varies.
That's it exactly. You can find your intial settings on the 'verb by fiddling about with it mixed high, then bring down the send and return to taste. I usually try to get a good strong signal to the 'verb via the send, and use the return to adjust the amount of it in the mix.
USB condenser not necessary if you have an interface, an SM57 and you'll be ok. Your choice of keyboard controller and Reason, Reaper, and of course a 24 track Studer with a Neve console, and you'll be ready to record.
Albert, you are riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipe for the evil joys of aaaaaaaaanalog. Watch as it eats your money, and smiles, and puts it's gorgeous and sinister beauty all over your takes. Yesssss, dark lords of magnets and rust, I think this one will serve you well...
I had no intention of confusing the OP or pulling out an unpopular opinion here. I realize that your A/D converter is probably the last part of the signal chain that gets looked at for upgrades, but it's my opinion that you can't judge a pre until you can hear what it does clearly. Most...
The signal chain's quality is a cumulative effect of each part of the path. If you have a great microphone, great pre-amp, great cords and a poor A/D converter, your sound will not reflect the quality components nearly as much as the poor ones. Thus, you will acheive purity of tone only when the...
I can't categorically state that a quality deck can be made for under 1000 dollars at all, I haven't a manufacturing background. What I can say is that manufactured goods are as inexpensive as they have ever been, thanks in part to a glut forced on us by China. It seems possible that if a...
