Worst commercial mix you've ever heard? MIX CRIMES

...wtf?????? hUH? CREATURES IS AN AWESOME MIX. That album has a very powerful drum mix, one of the best drum mixes of the early 1980's by any rock group. The drums sounds like cannons and for there music it sounded great. I mean the mix on Hotter Than Hell was horrible and cheaply done...

    SYncing Fostex VF-16 to Cubase5

thanks for the response, my problem syncing was that I wasn't using MIDI cables, I was using SPDIF and thinking somehow that would do it, but that's obviously just sending the audio signals right? So, I just want to more or less begin the syncing experience... I wanna have my HD recordeer...

    Mixer recommendations - Mackie, Behringer, . . . what?

Ya, I wouldnt buy anything second hand from ebay. I dont want to pay 200 hundreds bucks for a mixer thats been left outside or dropped. No thanks. But anyways, I was in your position a month or so ago when I need to get a new mixer. A went with mackie. Bherringer was a tempting cheaper one, but...

    a ruffie done tonight

The keys made it sound Van Halen-ish. I have an ART SGX 2000 still in working condition I find the distortions to be totally "out-of-the-box" guitar tones used in a lot of 4 track demos in the 80's. But i get some nice tones out of it plugging acoustic/electrics into the cleaner Chorusy...

    Beatles Cover

I have to respond to some of these comments and suggestions. People are mentioning pitchtone issues with the singing. Put on the song Yellow Submarine. Now is it me or is the first "town" Ringo sings seriously flat and wavering? Could he have redone it? yes,Did he? no. Some of those background...

    Yorkville monitors reliability problem

I hear what you're saying. It's a hassle boxing up,returning defective equipment. Last year I bought a digital Fostex 16 track, and out fo the box it came with the first two channlles blown. This was a 5 gig harddrive. Fostex said return it, they'll replace it. They sent me a new one with a 10...

    What I have been doing....

the production is pretty good. I don't hear any Beatles in it though. But it's hard for me to hear any Beatles among loops and samples though too. Not thats its supposed to sound like the Beatles, but you mentioned Lady Madonna, and my ears aren't hearing it...the opening guitar reminded me of...

    Yorkville monitors reliability problem

I have a set of active Yorkville monitors. I am very pleased with them. I don't really monitor at loud volume, so I dont know if they're easy rto blow up, but I have cranked them up and have sustained no damage. I think these monitors are great for the rock music I listen to and create. I...

    Beatles Cover

...good job hey that was cool. Revolver is one of my favorite albums. I dunno if it's the best album of all time as has been voted recently, I like Rubber Soul even a little better, but what the heck, anything by the fab four is awesome. I agree that the tempo may be a little fast, but the...

    J-Station, POD, or V-Amp

Yes, but a lot of Digitech's effects are, to my ears anyway, have usually been cheesy sounding anyway. Aside from the Multi-Tap delay Steve Morse had a hand in developing with them years ago, I have never been a big fan of Digitech effects. I don't see why I'd be buying an amp modeller for...

    SYncing Fostex VF-16 to Cubase5

Hello, can anybody share some advice about syncing the Fostex up to my Cubase5 system? Right now, I have SPDIF going 2 channels out of the Fostex and into CUBASE.....now, do I need to add extra MIDI cables up to sync the two? I was under the idea from the manuals that it would be synced...

    J-Station, POD, or V-Amp

If ya want the best ya gotta pay for it. The POD modeller in your list. A 150 dollar J-Station won't keep up. If the POD sounds too dirty to you, then turn down the Drive control. The lack of a digital out on the POD hasn't been a problem since when I go down to the club and jam, usually the...

    The Hives

Well, my grandpa used to say that the more lights bombs and lasers, the less musical talent was needed. Justin Timberflake is so untalented that Mtv has no choice but to make it sound like a revelation that he wrote his own song. He's a dancer, not a musician. They're entertainers, not...

How do YOU write a song? Any tips?

....INSPIRING TONE I think Acoustic guitars are great, I love em. But if I'm writing a self-indulgent metal opus, I need an appropriate tone to write with. I think when you have a sustained searing guitar tone it lends itself better to writing guitar driven rock. In thi respect I think the POD...

new song lookin for more advice..

I hope you take this as a compliment, but it sounded like a demented nightmare. It sounded cool. These guys say the vocal is out of tune, I say leave it that way, it adds to the dramatic effect of the song. I think these guys are simply responding to a tension the vocals set up in there ears...

    mackie MIXERS AND DAILY HOURS

Hello, I'm a releativley new owner of a small Mackie 1202 mixer. Now temerature wise, it's not bad, but it gets warm...but a consistant warm, not prgressively hotter and hotter. I was wondering if any of you more long time Mackie owners know if this Mixer can handle 2 hour per day usage 7 days...

    MACKIE 1402 Question(s)

    >>>>>I'm not sure why you'd bring the tracks out to the Mackie just to EQ them. Why not use Cubase to EQ? <<<<<<< Well, Im not recording the drum tracks into Cubase. I'm recording the drums at a remote location witha Fostex VF-16. I don't like relying on the Fostex for EQ. I have much more...

    MACKIE 1402 Question(s)

Ya, but a Bherringer Noise Gate only has enough for 4 Channels anyway. What i would do would be to use the 2 XLR Inputs on the VF-16 for a couple overheads, then I'd take those tracks and send them through the Mackie later on and EQ them, and record them to new tracks then replace the...

    Gear??

Slackmaster - it's okay that you got a little irate, no need to apologize, I guess my initial post was a litttle vague and destined to cause a little bit of a heated reaction. I agree that those who said the gear The Beatles recorded with was crap, are in fact idiots....but I actually have...

Can I record without listening in monitors?

Don't attenuate sounds with headphones on. You can't get the true sound by adjusting tones with headphones. You have to have monitors. You cannot mix music with headphones and achieve great results. The only thing headphones are good for during the recording process is for the tracking itself...
