Well you can expect that 1073 sounds a hell lot fuller than some cheap interface preamp.
Same applies to compressors or whatever equipment. Of course you can talk about different flavours, but actually no one seems to want to get thin and lifeless recordings.
And for the price you can get lot...
Last picture looks more like ORTF which OP could check out. This is go-to technique for me... however I recently discovered that mono overhead sounds pretty good too. :listeningmusic:
Hi Julia!
Never had this kind of problem with Cubase, but you can check if you are using right drivers. Go to Devices->Device setup->VST Audio System and select on the first dropdown menu Scarlett usb or whatever the driver is called.
To disable snap search for a button that looks like this: >|<
This should be in Mp3 clinic forums...
But anyway... few thoughs:
I would try different reverb (or replace it with delay) for the vocal. The band and vocals could be blending better.
Guitar solo around 1 minute mark is a bit muddy.
I voted for software because it will give you most of the time better results than cheap outboard equipment. Now if you had thousands of dollars... that would be another story :D
This setup should be okay, but you could take a look at dbx 286 - It's a really good unit for the money (take a look at ebay, you don't have to buy it as new). Takes care of compressing, de-essing and more. Kind of what you need when you are live streaming.
Is there a way to get the download links again, it seems that I've lost the mail with download links. Or actually what the hell, I should buy it again. Well worth the money and helped me with drum tracking.
That is really interesting.
What I'm hearing is that Focusrite has the most top end and also most detailed in the midrange. EMU has slightly less top end, but I like the bit more round sound for that guitar (however feels less detailed), might be otherwise for other sources. Alesis sounds bad...
What firewire connector are you using? The mini fw like this?
http://plyojump.com/classes/images/hardware/firewire.jpg
In my experience this has to be the worst connector ever. I have it too on my laptop and at one point I gave up and got myself an extra fw card with bigger fw connectors. Every...
Well it should work like that. What happens if you solo the left channel and bypass the effect plugin?
What if you right click the panner on the group channel and select Stereo Dual Panner/Stereo Combined Panner and make sure it isn't centered.
Hi Matt! Could you upload us a sample of your own sound so we could take a listen and steer you to the right direction.
However some quick thoughts:
Why don't you use Zoom as audio interface and record directly to your computer?
What speakers/headphones are you using?
Is your room treated?
Definately go with Focusrite (you didn't mention which Scarlett you are talking about - there are many versions with different count of channels). Although EIE looks interesting it has really poor reviews, so I'd avoid it.
