    Up and down (nitpick session)

Thanks T!! I will attend to your suggestions. I let the AI algorithm determine where to apply EQ (predicated on their internal model) - and sometimes it doesn't get things quite right. Great insights! Always appreciated.

    Up and down (nitpick session)

The background vocal fills are meant to wander under the choral parts. I don't want the lead out front as of that point, bud. But I'll listen again in context of your mention. I don't want things too buried either. Thanks guy!

    Falling (revised)

Oddly I didn't even mention a vegemite sandwich! The jam outro always worked live so we kept it in the recording. There IS limiting in play - but I'm attempting more of a light touch.

    Falling (revised)

I'm really pulling back on the limiting in my new versions - trying to dial in just enough to glue things w/o hearing the limiter's impact. This was my recent band's recording of this tune. We were together from 2016 until Covid disbanded us in 2021. We used to play this live. At one point...

    Up and down (nitpick session)

I think I have this pretty close. I'm merely looking for folks to mention anything that pokes out at them on a listen through. Thanks a bunch, folks!

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

It's funny. I ABSOLUTELY have altered my mixing "philosophy" to deal with these mile high observations. I don't worry as much about tweaking EQ on the instruments (unless something is wrong) as I do about high level issues - like staying true to a song's intent. You hit the mark w/ the...

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

Okay - quick analysis reveals that the "clicks" are rimshot hits that were incorrectly assigned to a snare stick hit in the midi mapping. I'm going to change the assignment and see if I can get them to not sound like clicks. Great ears, boys. I've listened so long to the inaccuracy that it...

Thanks fellas! I've got this screen up and the file open!

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

I'm coming around to that conclusion myself. The song varies enough to maintain interest (as per your note), but then reaches the end and ... repeats an orchestral section over and over until it stops. I tried adding Stu's vocals back in to increase interest again - but as good as they are, it...

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

Ha - I'm leaning towards agreeing with you. I added more of Stu's vocal to add more blended interest and structure to it ... but I'm still seeing if I can make it work.

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

Duly noted. I'm still rolling the tape in experimentation - gathering input. It sounds like noodling - and in the breakdown of the piece, doesn't sound like a sore thumb. It kind of fits as an unwinding. Still, it doesn't add much to the piece either. Any thoughts on adding Stu's refrain back...

Summer (w/Stu - new bass from Tjarko)

New mix above - Tjarko forgot to add the room tracks to his submission. Also - quick opinion por favor. I added Stu's vocal again at the very end. Yes? No? Too much?

Mine's boringly literal. It's my high school nickname from the soccer team.

Sooner or Later - quick limiting question

I think they just "abnormalize" to -14LUFS :D I'm sure all the sites have their standards. I used to notice on FB that I'd upload and have to turn the volume up to get to where the mix was originally. Izotope says most rock mixes are mastered to roughly -8LUFS - so that's a bit of a drop.

Sooner or Later - quick limiting question

It's definitely baked into the mix for purpose of clarity. Drums were sent compressed - bass is SLIGHTLY tightened. I have no limiting on the guitar (other than the two buss) but electric guitars are naturally compressed sounding anyways. Great ears on the spatial plug in. I have a Izotope...

Sooner or Later - quick limiting question

@Trojka KILLS the ending w/ his guitar groove. It's amazing what "twiddly guitars" can yield for results.
