    Is Cubase falling behind?

I had issues with ASIO guard myself. Also my usb cord at one time made a big difference. I had 2 cords I really believed were exactly the same but one had real problems and the other has been perfect.

building up larger multitrack mix w/DP008ex

I have the 008 and love it. I personally think the internal mics are good. But use it to record remotely then dump my files into my daw. I cant imagine mix/mastering with it. But I'm sure the effort is a good learning process.

    Studio fatigue

In a way it just is what it is. Not really a magical answer. It is fatiging. Headphones do require you to back away a lot. I just live with it.

    Limiter - master

Read all your post, not all the resonses. 2 things. You might have too slow attack and realease. 2nd, I think you need to go back to remix and make sure you start with drums only. Bring up until the drums just tickle the compressor and make sure the needle or led is dancing which means your...

    Best way to do this...

First, dont think you need to balance. Lots of well known records after stereo are not balanced--and that depends on if we're talking output level or just instruments balance. The issue is a very basic part of learning mixing. And you dont need anything special! Sometimes if I just want one...

    compression in guitar signal chain

I agree with the others that you need to decide what your goal is for the comp before you know where or how to use it. Btw with dist you can add a lot of floor noise.

HD 600's sound amazing, but are low output, even with my interface's headphone amp

Some depends on the output of your interface. My tascam has a lot. Its only a quarter up going into my Presonus HP4 and its loud. I hardly have to turn it up.

Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

Keeping it simple. Earbuds are reality. If you are making music for upload to Spotify or iTunes you want it to sound as good as possible for todays medium. Do I still use speakers? Of course, I'm 58. Listen in my car a lot. I have one album ot on the usual streaming sites ans another one...

Techniques for getting vocal levels even?

You need to use a compressor. Or in your case, learn how to use one.

    Low End Mixing advice

Something else I do is I dip sharply the freq at somewhere around 300-350. This separates the mids and bass freqs so they have heir own space.

    Low End Mixing advice

Like others are getting at, find the frequency that is so prevalent in the subs but not in the other sources. Remember subs pick up below typical speakers. So you can cut out fqs from subs and never notice on reg monitors.

Why are equalizers and mixers still used

Work in my world and you never woukd have asked the question. ---------- Update ---------- Work in my world and you never would have asked the question.

    Recording Bass at home.

Saying plug straight in is imo misleading. A cheap bass will be exposed. It will sound like a guitar with thicker bass strings. A well made bass with good pups will sound a lot better. But both, as a direct signal will be unforgiving with any click pop string or fretboard noise. This can be...

    Recording Studio Flooring Question

For acoustic to mic recording I prefer a soft room to iso the guitar as much as possible. A wood floor ok but real wood. You can put a mat under the chair and the room is big enough for a nice rug. And really you can treat those walls without spending a lot of money on pro acoustic panels...

    Quick Marching Band Recording

Seriously for 250 and under, anything that will connect to video, and has 2 mics in an xy pattern, or angled for a nice spread.

    Drum Recording

This is how I record. But I was refering to the mix and didnt say it well. If you are already getting a lot of room bleed from iso mics you do dont need to mix in as much OH.

    Question concerning doubling lead vocal

Sounds like a phase issue like Matt said. Too technical, but basically seperate audio sources cancelling each other out. I have experienced with guitar also. So for doubling vocals I never record the second track exactly the same. And by that I mean, distance from the mic, eq, maybe change...
