The headstock I drew lines up the strings straight across the nut, although i didn't take the time to compensate for string gauge. The design I was using was entirely inappropriate for the guitar style. I just neede to have something that didn't clash. I look forward to seeing what you have in mind.

I think I might be the only one interested in this design direction. I wonder if some folks think this is the route the process is giong to take. Maybe I should play around with th surf guitar design for awhile and see if participation picks back up. If there are any suggestions on where to go...

This is the design I've been playing around with. As you can see the body is 15" wide at the lower bout. This would be semi hollow rather than a chambered. In my vision it would have an arched top. It ended up being only slightly asymmetrical. I don't love the lightning bolts as drawn. This is...

Man! It's a pain in the A** to draw lightning bolt "F" holes that look right.

I thought I'd bring these forward in the thread and post just the bodies we are down to discussing. LP Special,Jazzmaster, & Strat Silhouettes Note: All the bodies were drawn freehand with no attention to precise scale.

My preference is also for a chambered or semi-hollow. I think I'm the only proponent of the double-cut LP Special as a starting point but I'm voting that way anyway.

I won't have access to my autocad this weekend. I hope I get a chance to look in on this thread once in a while. I hope we haven't lost everyone.

Your silhouette looks very Jaguar/Jazzmaster. I really like it with the two sided headstock. I can do up the drawings I have posted in silhouette form if you can wait 'til tomorrow evening. Perhaps that will give some time for others to weigh in.

Wings it is going forward. Alembic used to build guitars capped the way I described and then radius the edges rather dramatically. It's an interesting look. Probably not for a surf style though.
