Buying 2nd LDC, upgrade for SP B1 needed, help please

Just go for the T3. You won't have invested any better in your music than that -- for a mike.

    Studio Projects T3 on guitar

When I first got my T3, I a/b'd it with the AKG 451B on a steel-string acoustic and the latter was more defined and crisp. However, today I a/b'd them with a nylon string guitar, and the T3 duplicated the warmth of the strings much better than the AKG. Since the T3 is always up and plugged in...

    Acoustic Guitar Mic(s) - $300 range

MXL603S -- using one would be just fine. Nice, big, detailed sound. Of course, work with the placement.

    Best solution for de-essing?

Emusic -- yes, yes, yes. I've got protools, and that's exactly what I do. This way only fractions of the track are altered as opposed to the entire track. Of course, this only applies to being able to edit waves like that.

Peavey TMP-1 Class A Tube Mic Preamp?

I've never used it, but my first thought is that is has a maximum gain of 55 db, and I know that when I use my pres, which have 60-72 db of gain, often I use that last 5 dbs of gain, and 55 would just be a little too short for my use.

    Studio Projects C1...

C1 $130 shipped I've got one of the original Studio Project C1 mikes that has no bass roll-off switch. It's a great mike. I've taken good care of it. It has all of the original paperwork, pop filter, case, and shockmount. I just got a T3 (among other things) and need to let go of mikes I...

studio projects vtb1 vs joemeek 3q

I don't have the new Joemeek 3q, but I've got the earlier VC3Q -- which is pre-PMI audio owned. My understanding is that the new 3Q is probably better, but I'd still recommend the VTB-1 if you don't need the pre or compressor. Why? The VTB-1 has more gain, an impedence switch, and a rumble...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

Yes, Harvey said if anything he'd keep the VTB-1 just for his RCA ribbon. BUT, so are you saying that even though I get a stronger signal and brighter tone with the 200 ohm switch out, I should still use the 50 ohm switch in? I don't have the best ears, so maybe there's something I'm missing...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

The VTB-1 has an impedence switch, and whether it was the right one or not, we found the undepressed switch (making it 200 ohms instead of 50 -- or 2,000 instead of 500) boosted the db by quite a bit, also making it brighter. When I first recorded with it, I was told it should use the lower...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

My friend had me over last night, and we did some comparing with the GR and VTB-1 with the R84. Not only that, but I've spent more time with placement and post-recording e.q. on this mike. Without much elaboration, I love what I'm getting from the R84, especially with the fiddle, mandolin...

    Focusrite ISA220 into a digi002r

Go to Digidesign.com, click on support, then go to their forum (User Conference). Almost everything/anything you need to find out awaits you there -- with and without sarcasm (it exists in every forum).

    Studio Projects

This is a good thread -- even just for the soap opera affect. After I record in my studio for a couple hours a day, I always enjoy popping into this forum instead of watching t.v. for my entertainment/enlightenment/education/information. And it's all for free!!!! Cable's getting rather...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

Keith/Flatpicker/War: This has to be preamp noise -- a slight hiss. It actually is less in the MBox's Focusrites than the VTB-1. With fiddle, there's no problem -- plenty of signal to beat out any preamp noise. I'll let you all know how it goes through my friend's GR.

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

Thanks the clips, Warren and Sonnix. The guitar picking you were doing, Sonnix, is much closer to what I do -- volume-wise, and it sounds really wonderful, as does mine, but I couldn't tell what kind of room noise/hiss from cranked volumes you had. That's my problem -- the noise factor. I get...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

Flatpicker -- funny you mention the Grace 101. That's what I've been looking at. Actually, it is (the actual 101) the one that has 70 db -- via an extra 10 db of "trim" addition to the 60 db of input gain, much like the VTB-1 has an extra 12 db on the output (theoretically giving it 72 db of...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

I've tried all three pres I have -- VTB-1, VC3Q and the Focusrites on my MBox. They all have 60 dbs of again, but I'm still not getting a strong enough signal for the volume I play with my acoustics (except fiddle -- and really, it's worth it just for that). I was hoping it would be the "bees...

AEA R84 is what everybody claims...

It's just that my applications are too subdued to take advantage of this incredible mike. I've used it for more energetic vocals, and it beats anything I've got. Miking a bass, guitar cab, just sounds so smooth. But my stuff is mostly acoustic folk, and this just isn't the mike for me. I've...

    AEA R84 $850 Shipped

Bought new and received in the mail Thursday, August 26th. It's an incredible mike, but my applications are too soft to take advantage of a good ribbon. My misfortune is your lucky gain! Serial number 699. Hurry up -- I might change my mind.
