In the market for a drumset... any advice?

Hmm... Well it seems that crap drums can be upgraded to sound decent but you're stuck with garbage cymbals... Do you guys think it's worth it to buy a less expensive kit and use the savings to splurge on a good pack of cymbals? Also, I'm going to my local music store next week to check drums...

RME UCX - is it worth it?

I'd recommend the UCX as well. I have a UFX too, and the thing's a beast. I've used it to record a concert by attaching an 8 channel mixer to it via analog inputs. Worked like a charm. I imagine the UCX has similar capabilities, but on a smaller scale. The Total Mix is a little complicated...

    Are all DAWs the same?

Well it seems to me that Avid just really likes to drive the idea home that Pro Tools is the "industry standard", and because of that they think they are, among other things, entitled to doing stuff that forces Pro Tools users to buy more Avid stuff, like HD being only compatible with Pro Tools...

    Are all DAWs the same?

I've been using Pro Tools for a while now, about 2 years. But there are some things about Pro Tools that just annoy the hell out of me, such as the elitist/exclusive nature of the software and it's limited compatibility with a lot of stuff. But from what I've learned, the only difference...

In the market for a drumset... any advice?

Thanks for the advice everyone, much appreciated :). What I might just end up doing is go to a local music store and buy a decent kit brand new after A/B-ing some kits... I might lost out on great savings from buying used, but you can't beat the simplicity of the "get in and get out" way of...

In the market for a drumset... any advice?

Hmm... I found it in another thread here [how convenient] the crash on the Yamaha kit sounds like garbage... Maybe I'll pass on that one.

In the market for a drumset... any advice?

Well, I see a Yamaha 5 piece stage-custom, with a Zidljean 16'' rock custom crash and every other cymbal being Paiste, going for 800 $ CAD. As far as my limited knowledge of cymbals goes, Sabian and Zildjean are good bets. Not all too familiar with Paiste however...

In the market for a drumset... any advice?

I feel that I have a need to learn drums on account of them just being awesome and fundamental to music, among other things. That said, I am totally new to the world of banging things, and as of such, I am looking to buy a drumset. Preferably a one stop shop set that's got decent cymbals...

    How do you pronounce DAW?

Those are so bad that they make me cry... tearable indeed.

    How do you pronounce DAW?

Ahhhh ok now I get it! I wasn't pronouncing it right... Or wrong, depending on where you're from. :p That sort of reminds me of a certain moment in the Sound of Music... Not exactly appropriate, but oh so hilarious.

    How do you pronounce DAW?

What's to take? I'm not following here... if there's a joke in that, I think I just killed it.

    How do you pronounce DAW?

    How do you pronounce DAW?

Well to me (Canadian), idea is pronounced "I-dee-yuh", emphasis on the "dee" The "yuh" isn't exagerrated, if it was that would just sound dumb.

    How do you pronounce DAW?

Well I believe I've heard english people pronounce idea "idea-ER" a lot. DAW as a word and idea sorta rhyme so maybe it's an english linguistic thing.

    How do you pronounce DAW?

Acronyms I'm guessing are for making a long string of words into an easy and quickly spoken thing. But I think "Daw" is more efficient then D-A-W. The word rolls of the tongue nicely so why not? But then again you wouldn't pronounce CEO as a word...

    How do you pronounce DAW?

This seems like a silly thread, but I'm curious as to what people call Digital Audio Workstations for short. I've always pronounced it Daww, as in the beginning of D'awesome. But I think in my neck of the woods people call it Dee-eh-double-you more often. So how do you pronounce DAW? :D Poll up.

    Ideal Room

Good point. My mistake, I jumped to conclusions and assumed/misinterpreted he was looking for a "perfect" room... Don't listen to me :D
  19. SloppyJo

    Ideal Room

Well... there is no such thing as a perfect room. An ideal room wouldn't even be a room. It would be outside somewhere, perfectly flat, a totally quiet environment with no obstacles/walls to reflect sound back to the listener.

    Square Room - Can I Go Kitty-Corner

Putting your monitors/desk in the corner is bad idea. All the modal resonances of the room end up in the corners, so if you put your desk there, you'd get an incredibly bad frequency response from your monitors. Not to mention the fact that your room is a square... an acoustical nightmare...
