Drum Loops and Drum Software -- Different?

Thanks for the insights. I've played with it, and like it so far. Question: I created a drum track in nTrack using DoD. Now, how can I create a whole wav file (about 4 mins.) from the connected drum loops? I'd like to burn it to a CD, then transfer to my digital recorder (Fostex VF80)...

Drum Loops and Drum Software -- Different?

I am thinking it would be easiest to just use nTrack, but I wondered if I'd miss out on some magical purpose behind FL, etc... I downloaded hotstepper, but the zip file is corrupt. Thanks anyway.

Drum Loops and Drum Software -- Different?

I'm not new here, but it's a newbie-type question, and I wasn't sure where else to put it.... Here's what I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I buy a CD full of beats, like Drums on Demand, I still need drum loop software like Acid or Fruity Loops to arrange these loops, right? I'm...

    Feedback on Rock Song Mix

    I can't play the tune!

    any solo artists in here.

Yes, but you have to be that way. I'm much too nice. I'd have a hard time being in complete control. Then again, the thought that THEY work for ME is a new one, and I'll let it sink in a bit! I guess anyone who wants to take that on needs to have a healthy dose of confidence and vision...

    any solo artists in here.

I used to think it was cheating, too, making polished songs. I still do in a way, so I keep my recordings pretty simple. I do this also b/c I like it simple! I have been in a few bands, but relationships are brittle and things never last, so I struck out on my own. That had its cons (no one...

What do you use for Monitoring?

Using VF80 to record -- Yamaha headphones, then dump to nTrack on PC, where I use Roland MA-8. Don't be embarrassed, y'all -- we live in the real world, with sleeping kids, neighbors, families, etc...

    effects loop . . . ?

So, it sounds as if rack effects are best in the effects loop, while floor pedals are best when put before the amp? I've never had rack effects, just a few pedals -- Dunlop wah, various Boss... pretty simple setup. I guess it's all about experimenting.

Mixed from Korg to Fostex MR8 - a test of a jam - "Quick Jam 69"

I really like the groove. Are the drums real? The guitar sounds fuzzy and thin. Yeah, I always listen to a CD in the truck. Sounds like you're having fun with the new toy. Enjoy! G

Original music - give it a listen please!

Lead guitar sounds thin. Needs some mids for a meatier tone, to better go along with the mood of the song. And you seem to have a good voice -- like me, you have to push it out more. It sounds reserved. A good scream, as someone told me, is useful. Good effort!~ G

2 more Inner Blue songs up if you liked the last one...

I like the groove. I think the song would benefit from a "full" production. Lots of potential here! g

    Buying Studio Time Questions

THANKS!!! This is great insight, great advice. I really appreciate your time, edzell. G

Man I hope this isn't considered screamo...

Ha, I know what this is -- I do it all the time!!! :D It's when the vocal or other note fades in and out of tune. In other words, the pitch changes. Caused by a lack of control and/or proper tuning.

    Big White Porch

Okay, I get it...the ting has to go...haha. The vox gets worse as I sing louder. And yes, the baby comes first! So, livilaNic, does that mean you liked the lyrics? Or was that a slam? Is it clear that this is from a dead man's point of view at his own funeral? G tingting

    Feedback Please

You sound like one of my writing students -- they take the class, ask for feedback, but any suggestions that I or another student make are met with hostility. If you're so great, go get a recording deal. Why hang around here?

    Big White Porch

Thanks! Yeah, the triangles came with the drum track -- no getting rid of them, but I can see about taking them down somewhat. (they bug me, too). I love Robbie Robertson, and Whitley's CD is a favorite of mine. Saw him open for Tom Petty years ago, and was blown away. This is a huge...

    Buying Studio Time Questions

I know this may be out of place here, since this is HOME recording, but I'm considering buying some studio time at a local studio for the following reasons: 1. Experience. Never done it, curious about the process. I see it as an adventure. 2. Impatience. I've been recording on my own for...

What to do when you're already in a band...

I was in two bands. They fought over my time, like children. But I just wanted to play and learn as much as I could at that point. I record my own music at home, but have been thinking about getting in a band again. Thing is, I don't want to just play cover songs for 3 hours a night. I'm...

    Feedback Please

Maybe, but it doesn't sound like it. It feels like you're saying the words, but not feeling them. Just an opinion, man. Sorry I can't explain it any better. g
